Hi,

Firstly i appologise if there is already info on this issue on the forum.

The problem i have is this.

I have a x1900 XT-X that i feel is not performing as it should in BF2. The graphics are very laggy and choppy even with the graphical options turned down to medium and no anti aliasing. I have catalyst 6.5 drivers. Any ideas why this is happening. The other bits in my PC are:

3.2 dual core p4
2GB OCZ dual channel GX XTC
Abit AW8 mobo
maxtor dimond max hdd.

Any help with this would be much appriciated.

Cheers

Is this maybe to do with a dual core cpu issue?

As a quick test, try setting the bf2 executables' affinity to one cpu and see what happens.

So how do I set the processor affinity?
1)In Windows open up your game or application. If you are in a game press Alt+tab to come out.
2)Open up Windows Task Manager (Ctl+Alt+Del).
3)Click on the Processed tab and find your game or application
4)Right click on the game or application and select Set Affinity.
5)You will see CPU0 and CPU1 checked. Uncheck either one.
6)Click OK
7)Go back into your game or application and you will now be running your program on one core.

You may also want to try cleaning out the video cache in your My Documents folder if that doesn't work.

\Documents and Settings\[username]\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache\

Thanks for the info, unfortunatly i tried what you suggested and the laggy graphics are still making the game unplayable. Could there be anything else causing the issue? Thanks for your help

Have you installed the latest chipset drivers for your motherboard?

EDIT: And is it all games or just BF2?

Hello all and thanks for your help.

The PSU is an Antec TruePower 2.0 550W. It happens in other games aswell but just seems particularly prominent in BF2. The other games i have tried are old ones, Rome Total War and Battlefield 1942. I havent tried online play. It lags in single player and lan multiplayer. I havent installed the latest chipset drivers. I have got them now and will install them and try again.

Thanks all

Is it the well known lag at the beginning of each game?

I have a lot of stuttering during the first 10 seconds of each map with an X1900XT and continued minimal stuttering here and there, but then again I only have 1GB of RAM. I've heard 2GB, completely eliminates this.

What anti virus software are you using?

I was getting bad lag for months thinking it was something to do with my hardware, found out it was NOD32 causing the problems.

What is your internet connection in BF2 set at? Setting it at the higher lever (lan is it?) makes it REALLY laggy! Make sure it's set to 256k i think the setting is.

I've tried this on a SDSL line (2mb up/2mb down) and it was STILL laggy on the LAN setting just how much bandwidth does it need or do the servers limit it in some to less than LAN speed?

Although not LAN speeds you'd think 2MB u/d would be enough..
What extra info is it needing to transfer?

EDIT just read it's in Single player..

Whats the status of your hard drive fragmentation wise, you defraged it recently? but I'm going to guess it's a heat or a power issue.

I got laggyness when i used the latest 6.5 cats, its always worth trying some alternative drivers.

Omega drivers have made all my lag disappear.

i had it set on that for bf2 when it first came out and when i set it to 256k no more lag i would try this asap

I have a ASUS X1900XT-X with the latest drivers, everything on max and the game runs very smooth.

Have a mess aroung with the ati control panel.change a few settings and try again.

Hello and thank you all for your tips. Luckily for me simply updating my chipset drivers fixed the issue, i am now playing with everything on high and all the bells and whistles with no problems. Thanks again for the help it has been much appriciated.
