Hi, just a quick one. Does the x1900xt 512MB have enough steam to power a 1680x1050 res tft with reasonable AA and AF etc? I play COD4, COH, Sup Com, COD2 etc.

Any ideas??

Cheers

No problems at all with those games, basically the same rig as you except 2GB of RAM. Will play great, fit a S1 accelero and overclock and it'll be even better. It's only in Crysis do you get unplayable framerates on high setting. Fear could be faster.

Played all those games, all fine except Supreme Commander Forged Alliance. Supreme Commander is fine though.

I have the same system as you, except I have 2GB ram and X2 @ 2.5ghz. All the games you have listed run fine (over 30fps average) at 1680x1050 with max details and at least 2xAA. That said, SupCom does get chuggy at times though I think thats more to do with the CPU than the graphics card.

Also UT3, Gears of War, MoH Airborne and Bioshock run fine at 1680x1050 with max details (dx9 mode obviously). The only game that has problems running at 1680x1050 is Crysis, which as you may already know is taxing even on the top spec graphics cards. Still it can be run at 1680x1050 if you drop details down to medium; if you want to run it at high detail, you will definitely have to drop the resolution down to at most 1280x800.

If you want silky smooth, always over 60fps performance than you may need to look towards the Geforce 8 series cards or the Radeon HD3000 series, but if your happy with the 20-60 fps performance, than the X1900XT is perfectly fine.

Finally, you definitely will want to upgrade to 2GB ram, since 1GB is a bit low these days and will cause a lot of stuttering in most games.

i have the HIS version, shouldnt be a problem, however... Sup Com, i would not recommend going above 1280x1024 or the equivelant wide screen res as your cpu is lacking for that game at standard resolutions never mind higher. (i was a bug tester for supremem commander from october 2006)

Ill be getting another gig of the same ram when my mate upgrades his old rig to core 2! Dont plan to be playing crysis, COD4 and BF2 will keep me plenty occupied, as well as the exams i have coming up of course!

Thanks for the advice!!! :)

can vouch for battlefield 2 on the x1900xt, i have to run it with medium texture cuz i got the 256mb card but it runs great with everything else at max with 2xAA and 16xAF at 1800x1440. quite shocked that the x1900xt can pull that rez of in games.

also age of empires 3 runs in 1800x1440 for me too very well. wish i now had got the 512mb version of the card.
