Hello guys. I've just upgraded from a 7800GS AGP to a Connect X1900XT, and I have to say I'm staggered. Whilst I only game at 1280 x 1024 I was finding that in demos like Call of Juarez I was having to drop the res and disable much of the eye candy. Most interesting for me is that I have a modest CPU (3500 AMD 64), so I wasn't expecting the levels of performance I'm getting now. Everything is silky smooth, everything cranked up to max, and the ATI catalyst control center is a delight to use.

This is my first ATI card and I have to say I'm a bit of a convert. I'm by no means an expert in these matters but the difference is immense.

If you can splash the cash, dive in!!

P.S - And no, I'm not being paid for this.

P.P.S - And before anyone points this out, yes I did change the motherboard too!!

Thanks for that. Once I've found my sea legs I'll take your advice. What I mean by 'delight' was that I found it easy to get to grips with. As a relative newcomer I probably don't have the level of knowledge that others on these forums possess. For me it was an easy interface and simple to navigate.

CCC has a very bad opinion here, the old control panel in my opinion is much simpler.

CCC uses more mem than it should because of all the fancy graphics, takes an age to load etc.

Myself (and others) try and get people to move away from CCC. When I first got my X1900XT i had to use CCC and I was like WTF have ATI done! :(

They still make the old control panel which is still some good news :p

CR. :)

Thanks again. I'll check it out.

Changing tact slightly, I'm kind of hoping this GPU should keep me going for at least a year. Like every other gamer I've got one eye on Crysis and the other on UT2007. You reckon this card should be ok at 1280 x 1024 for these?

Thanks

The crysis demo at e3 was on x1900xt crossfire, so hopefully with a few optimisations and a sighly lower res, a single one should be ok.

ut 2007 is coming out on ps3, so a x1900xt should easily be able to handle it. And ut games are usually well coded.

Exactly what I thought after upgrading from the 7800GTX.

I think much of it comes down to personal preference. All I know is that the X1900XT has probably been the best £209 I've ever spent. All the more so given that I sold the 7800GS for £160 on Ebay.
£49 for a GPU. That'll do nicely. :)

Another thing I now completely trust ATI with is display outputs. I've just bought a Samsung LCD TV and Holy hell the quality when connected via DVI to my X1900XT is just outrageous. Everything is richer, deeper, sharper, more colorful. When I played HL2 Episode 1 and COD2 it was just taking the ****, especially when compared to the 360.

*That's the second time today I've had to edit one of your posts Tommy, don't make it a third time- J*

Just so people know if they are interested ATI Tray tool doesnt support Xfire, so dotn try and use it if this interests you.

Just upgraded to beta 6.9 cats and I got a little performance boost but still have some testing to do and clocking of the cards.

Once Omega's have caught up I may try those

Is the new control center your talking about the one with the stupid car demoing down a very small track kinda like Outrun? If thats so then my god that was utter crap. But still ATi are still the best cards out there imo when running high res and all the eye candy notched up :)

yeah its the same one - even though the drivers are different of course, to be honest I have never seen that car making much difference according to the settings, but laughs thats not really important in my view - as long as the performance in game is increased laughs

You want to see Nvidia's, anyone remember the old Freescape games like Driller. ;)

I much prefer the CCC to the old CP, i think it looks a whole lot better, much more professional, and mine loads in about 2-3 seconds. :p

I've never understand why people always seems to be moaning that CCC takes so long to load. I don't have the fastest rig by any means but it only takes 5 seconds to load! Hardly the end of the world :p

ROFL that car was absoloutely pointless. You could put everything to either high or low settings and still the car would look great. Didn't do anything special.

I cant really understand why people moan so much about CCC. (overclockers excluded ;) )

Yeah its not great, but you dont have to access it that often.

Just create a few profiles and just change everything from the task bar.

Within 2 clicks of the mouse you can change settings to suit any game desired.
