Hey guys Got these 2 results on my X1900XT 3D Mark 05, wonder is it due to my CPU causing bottlenecking..

Rig info:

A64 3000+ 250x9
2X1gb Cosair UCCC 1T 3-4-4-8
DFI Lanparty UT NF4-D
PowerColor X1900XT 256mb

3DMark 05
625/725 - 9308
650/775 - 9393

The score is kinda close despite increasing by 25/50, this should be the case? or its my CPU causing the bottleneck?

Will a X2 3600/3800 or Any single core at >2.7ghz greatly improve my results

Thanks

Ouch!

a X1900XT at stock is capable of 10-11k.

I have a XT-X at those added clocks at with a 2.8ghz Conroe im at 13.5k 2005. My X1900XT with a 2.4ghz X2 and that was 11k.

So yes, a very very very very big bottleneck.

X2 will help tho.

okie, will try to get a new cpu soon.. cant find x2 3800+ over here in Singapore anymore.. how is the X2 3600 compared to the X2 3800+ ?

Well, it's the slowest of the bunch with the least cache. It's pretty basic but if it overclocks well that may make up for it. Sadly I've not seen anyone use these yet, so i've no idea about performance or overclocking potential.

Having said that, you are coming from a 3500+, which is certainly no powerhouse. In your shoes i'd do some research and try to find out what an X2 3600+ can do at higher speeds.

hmm, did some research but found nothing much about overclocking of the 3600.. maybe i should just try to find a 2nd hand 3800, or save up for an 4200..

how about single 4000 / opty 146/148?

Well a more powerful single core CPU will help, no question, but unless you can pick something up cheaply, i'd look for a dual core as it's becomign more and more useful. I got a 4000+ from OcUk 6 weeks or so ago for less than £80. It clocks to 3.1ghz. You find one of those and you're laughing. In terms of single core processing it's about as quick as a E6600 and that certainly won't bottleneck a X1900 of any description.

I might be able to get a cheap 2nd hand 4000+ but i'm not sure about how far it can clock as the owner doesnt overclock the chip..

Btw what is a mininum that a X2 3800+ can hit?

Thanks..

Sadly every chip is difference. If you're lucky it'll hit 2.6 or more. If not maybe 2.2 or less.

so not matter what, it should at least get till 2.2ghz?

hmm btw from ** sign, see that u are using opty 170, how is it compared to the x4600??

I might be able to get 1 from a guy from a forum..

Generally the opterons clock better than the X2 chips (not always, but most of the time at least) and they all have 1mb of cache per core rather than 512kb as the X2 4600 has (though the X2 4400 and 4800 both have 1mb per core).

The opty 170 has a x10 multipler though, where as the X2 4600 has a x12 I believe. That means at stock speeds the 4600 will be quicker and it won't require such a great motherboard to overclock to it's limit. The 170 though will probably go further plus the extra cache is worth about an extra 100mhz in terms of performance.

They also both run fairly hot compared to single core CPUs.

At the mo I have a [email protected] and 2 6800GTs at stock, and Im getting 9581 in 3dmark 05, But tues im getting a x1900xt and overclocking it to the xt-x. I wonder If I will get 13.5k in 3dmark 05

Doubt it, an xtx gets more in the region of 10,500 with your cpu. With a heavily overclocked c2d and a bigger overclock on the gfx then 13,000 might be attainable.

Correct, at X1900XT-X clocks u will be getting between 10.5 and 11.5k 2005.

At stock XT-X with a 2.8ghz Conroe im getting 13.5k, at 3.6ghz I imagine 14 or even 15k with a mild clock on the X1900.

Id be interested to see your benchmark results concorde, your scores seem pretty good. Have u got a link to your marks on futuremark webby?

what do you guys think of this for a cooling mod:

wonder how it would perform if a open cooler like the vf-900cu is fitted to a x1900xtx with this thing shoving cool air onto it.
