I am torn between two cards and I can't really decide which to go for. They are:

512MB Sapphire Radeon X1900XT

or

512MB XFX GeForce 7900GTX NV+

If I decide to go SLI at some point then its the XFX card, but I honestly don't know whether I will or not. I've read some things that say the X1900XT has significantly better IQ though so I really dont know which way to go..

Any ideas?

if your not gonna go sli then id probably say the x1900xt better visual quality and pretty much even performance, *and if it helps im not an nvidia or an ati fanboy, ive used both and both are great lol*

if you have an extra £90 id go for the 7950 gx2 tho, *but only if your not going sli*

if you are then 7900gtx akk the way fer sli ;-)

yep...ive got a 1900XT-X

and its flawless...graphics are best ever. £247 is an excellent price for such a well performing card...you could spend another 70 for a 7900GTX and wont notice a difference. Like said before....If you gona SLI...youd be just as well spending 400+ on the 7950....else save your self a fortune and be mightily impressed with the Connect3D 1900XT

SLI...IMO isnt worth it...double the cost for less than 1/4 performance improvement.

id choose the 1900xt over the 7900gtx, mine performs absoloutly excellent in everything it does at 1680x1050 can't fault it, i havnt even needed to overclock mine yet as there would be no point! :D - love it

aye fantastic card for 250 notes , only problem was i need to buy a new mobo cause the last one was agp. managed to get a cheap Asus A8N5X from overclockers...

really really nice card , havent benchmarked it yet , as long as i can play my games with all the candy set to full and its smooth i dont care.

thing was heavy though.

plus i only have a 19 in tft so Im limited to res anyway. this bad boy should play everything 1280*1024 at max eye candy..

hehe, yeh we got to be safe

a lot of crossfire flying around :P

Oh.. Lord...

But I'd say x1900xt. I've just gone from ATi to Nvid and i'd say Ati has better image quality for sure.

Then again, its your choice.

Agent.

Ermm i would definately get the X1900 XT, i had one for a day until it broke, and compared to the 7900 GTX which my mate had, the image quality was better and played more smoothy.

I would also like to say that people WHO havnt used either card, shouldnt realy be telling people to get one or the other,

Its performance / power people are looking for. Not fanboy comments... ;)

I have ended up buying the C3D X1900XTX instead

Just couldn't resist it to be honest, and I have got a nice Hiper 580W Type R PSU to make sure it gets enough juice.

Thanks for all the replies.

Good choice. Doesn't matter which you decide on. They all offer very near same performance and am sure you'll be happy with any of them.

Now go away and play.

Do you think the XT on special offer this week is a good deal? I'm not building a new rig until the end of July, so do you think these cards will have come down in price much then?

Interesting thread, i too am looking to upgrade from my 9800 Pro. I have £250 budget and not sure if i should go for the cheaper XFX 7900GT, X1900XT or up my budget and get a 7900GTX or X1900XTX. Will wait to see what prices are like in a months time.

they wont come down much in next month...maybe 10-20 £....i'd rather pay that for a months use. Man your going to notice some difference from that 9800pro :D
