Hi folks,

I just noticed, after playing 'Flatout' for about 5 minutes, the sound of the X1900XTX fan!

Its crazy! I looked on ATi CCC and it was @ 64 degrees.

This is a fault with these cards, im not usually one to pick at noise, but its a lot louder than my X850XT stock fan ever was.

Has anyone tried the VF900 with them yet? And are the any good?
 
The VF-900 might cool the card better but the disadvantage is that the hot air isn't expelled out the back of the case but circulated in the case.

So for the VF-900 to work well you need good (noisy) case ventilation.

perfectly said, that's the first person that's offered that opinion, rather than just rash excitment of a new product. The accelero 2 caused someone a major problem with case heat, that hot air will circulate inside the case, unless your case has good removal of air near the pci slots.

I'm looking for a top end card for a new gaming rig I'll hopefully be starting within the next two months. I was gonna get the Sapphire X1900XT, but lately i'm hearing about how much power they consume, they run quite hot and the fan's are noisy. So now i'm leaning towards a 7900GTX but i've heard the AA/AF aren't as good as ATI's. I'll be gaming on a 19" TFT@1280*1024. So what to do?

Quick and lazy answer < Have a look there, spot on with Dutch Guy too, you will need decent case ventilation to get rid of the heat, that was the only good thing with the stock cooler.

Slightly OT but didnt realise till i took the stock one off that it had a couple of heatpipes in it!

Nvidia AA is normally classed as better then ATI AA..But you get more of a FPS hit with Nvidia AA.

As far as i know, its the other way around :confused: ATi's AA is better and their AF is very even.
 
I've put a VF900 on me X1900XT a few days ago. Cools a treat, a good 5-8 degrees cooler than stock and virtually silent even at max fan speed. I've got an atcs 200 case with two intake fans and one exhaust, zalmans, all running at 5v. I've seen no increase in case or cpu temps and the X1900XT maxes out at about 65c and idles at 45c. I'd say all round improvement in my case.
 
ATI are defo better at AF than nvidia due to it being multi angle (high AF needs to be enabled). I also thought ATIs AA was better due to taking more samples - but I read this a while back so its possible this could not be different.
Most of ATIs graphical advantage just comes in the form of "I cant explain it - but it looks better"... see many of the "ive gone from nvidia to ati" posts/threads for this.
 
I went from a 7800GT to a x1900xt-x...and personally thought that the image quality using AA and AF was greatly improved over the Nvidia card. I dont also notice straight away that the fan is noisier and and hotter....but generally you cant hear the card at all in general use. When gaming it does rev up a bit....but still not too noisy...and I dont like much bad sound. I was think also about putting the new zalman cooler on it...but only if it improved the temps...it wasnt a sound issue. The fan never gets to full speed from my findings which is when it gets noisy...which is good. However...I still think it was a steal to get that kind of performance for 300 quid even if it is slightly hotter and louder that the equivelent Nvidia card. I would recommened!
 
I think the 7900gtx is cooler, my x fired 1900's keep my small pc room nice and warm. Imagine that air circulating inside your case, the stock cooler still rules in terms of design. Really all that required is for one of the manufacturers to use the existing design with a larger and quieter fan..............


Btw mine don't ramp up too much as I placed and 80mm fan blowing cool air at the inlet of the heatsinks, it keeps the ram/voltage circuitry cool, and also knock a few degrees off at idle. I don't think my cards go much over 70 degress, so the fans stay reasonably quiet.

My system temp is about 30/31, cpu temp 33 degrees.

But the X1900XTX is never below 45 degrees in Windows, and in games about 70+!

Im considering the Accelero cooler...

Those temperatures are similar to that of my 7800GTX.
