I'm getting 95C+ load at stock ! The cooling on these things is either completely useless or these things run very very hot..... Any alternative 3rd part coolers available which do better??

Mine runs at 72C, the cooler is quite good, if noisy. There is a Zalman vf700 which has had reports of not being strong enough. To come is an Arctic Cooling X2 which will cook your motherboard or a new Zalman vf900 heatpipe cooler as yet unknown.

They aren't supposed to go that high, you know. You either got a bad mounted cooler, or your case temp is way too high. It's incredible how people manage to mount these cards too :p . I've read about people not removing the cover behind the pci-e slot before mounting the card.

There is/was no cover behind the PCI slot.. How else do people mount these cards?? they can't be mounted any other way..

95 is way to high, my x1800 XT only goes to about 69-70 underload, and it idles about 55, could be poor airflow in the case as said above. :)

The airflow is fine, 5 80mm, fans 2 front, 2 back and one side fan blowing cool air towards the gfx card. ..

My old GTX certainly never had any cooling problems, infact is was very cool in comparision..

95'c under load is about right. Mine hit 92'c while running fear and 3D mark 2006. Just google X1900 loads temps and you will find a lot of people hitting 90'c+. Even Reserator cooled mine still hit 70+ 'c. Is this a sustained 95'c?

I AS5 mine with little or no effect to temps.

The X1900 is in a different class to the X1800 with regard to generating heat but it uses the same heatsink & fan hence the higher load temps.

could be well off the mark but are you still all running the stock fan settings?? Only asking because my x850xt's stock settings only had the fan spinning at 13% until it hit 85'c resulting in me getting similar temps under load until I checked the fan set points in Ati Tray Tools and changed them. Now it never goes over 63'c under load and the max the fan is set to spin at under load is 65%.

Even with max fan speed you couldn't achieve 45'c under load. 11'c difference, LOL

Wasn't trying to justify those nice temps of 45'c under load (hmm funny smell here)
Was more aimed at people getting 90'c+ temps under load with stock fan, maybe an adjustment of fan set points would help lower them a little.

ati state that the chip is good for 105 deg c

I know its not powered but hey they get to about 250 - 300 degc when they float the pcb on the solder bath and 99.9999% work after that

Yes its sustained well in shader heavy games.. I can tell by the noise from the fan, its like having that nvidia 5800U in my rig, infact its worse... Sad that kind of cooling has become standard..

If thats the case its just like mine and many other. The cooling does suck and I find it totally unacceptable especially after ATI use to slate the dust buster. Funny how what goes around comes around
