As title really. Current specs are:

C2DUO [email protected]
Gigabyte DS3
4 GB 6400 LL Geil RAM
2TB WD Caviar AAKS Drives RAID 0
ASUS X1900XTX
Vista Ultimate X64

GPU Is the weak point of my system I guess. Im wanting to upgrade this so I can play DX9 games perfectly. I dont have any issues really now but with vista eating performance it could do with a swift boot up its arse to make things perfect. I play Oblivion, Guild Wars, Armed Assault (which doesnt run now on 64 anyway) and looking at Bioshock and Crysis.

The new ATI cards look tempting for the price and im not paying 400 again like i did with my last which i guess knocks nVidia on its head. No real reason but i do like ati cards and the prices are good i think for this gen.

So 2900 next? And also, anyone know 2nd hand price for my old card, has a silent zalman cooler on it. Was the top ASUS one, EAX something.

256 or 512 xtx ?

Last one i saw go on here was around £80-90 on members market, but I have only just joined the members market so I am unsure of this 'average' selling rate.

Question> Is your card overclocked already? (and to what).

If you have the xtx, I would wait till the next nvidia/ati cards come out.

Its a horrible thing this having to 'save' melarky. I'm so bad at it :( Always want something, buy it, then suffer lol.

Thankfully I have a wife now to straighten me out :D Hopefully that will mean I save money and can actually afford what i class as the 'dream' products :)

There is no 256mb XTX.

X1900XT Crossfire = 512Mb
X1900XT = 512mb
X1900XTX = 512mb
X1900 Pro = 256Mb IIRC

2900XT is a superb card but it's also worth considering the 8800GTS on "This Week Only".

The 2900XT is faster, however it uses a bit more power and is a bit noisier. :)

Gotta admit I keep thinking about the 2900XT for myself since I sold my x1950xt, but I need to be strong and hold out lol.

I still think your better waiting till the next range comes out btw and keeping your xtx. Its still a darn fast card, and there are hardly any games out there that will phase it even at reasonable to high settings.

ATI next gen going to be sometime (next year or end of).And as he said he dont want to be paying £400 for a GTX and next gen are going to be $$$.GTS or the 2900 is the way to go.I was upset some what with my 2900 but the new beta drivers have made things better and with the support ATI seem to be giving the card (driver wise) over the 8800's. The power hungry noise maker might be the way to go.But 8800 GTS or 2900 XT i cant see you being upset. But i was moving from a 850 XT PE and the difference/performance boost i thought was a lot might not be so big for you.Stil a good card your's doomy.

Well I did enjoy the jump from my 800XTPE so I know ill be happy with new. Whether it warrants a kicking from the girlfriend is a different matter.

Just tell her your buying it. I bought a card.. and cpu/mboard etc without telling the wife. Still in the poop now. Honesty is best policy.

Maybe not what you want to read....

Why bother looking to upgrade.? As you have pointed out that everything you are running is running fine now and even though Bioshock has gone gold, and will soon be released, just hang on and see how it runs. The same applies to Crysis.

You don't mention what resolution that you are running at, but as you have noted a list of pretty demanding games that run fine, then surely you are ok...?

The longer you leave it before getting a new graphics card the cheaper it will be, the more mature the drivers will be supporting the latest GPU's and the more informed you will be of your needs.

But like I noted at the start, maybe not what you wanted to read :D

1680x1050 is native res of my monitor. Was fiddling with Oblivion last night and found it hard to get it exactly what I liked and running at playable or at least what I deem so. Its the only game that I cant quite max out with AA and AF.and keep at 40 fps+

I forgot to mention the other monitor my card is feeding is a 1080p 42". Would be nice to have that playing my racing games like rfactor GTR hooked up with my G25. Any suggestions bearing that in mind?

Your needs now reflect what you really need.

I would say at present if you can't wait, then a 8800GTX. The full on res of a 1080p screen is gonna be even more demanding though, you may want to try it with 720p input :)

my x1900xt does 1680 x 1050 playing source at full settings at 50-70 fps, im sure if i put 6 x aa down to 2 x aa i could easily get over 100fps,
your current card is powerful enough for 1080p but not maybe full settings, but it will do medium to high settings with ease, if you have the money i would go for a 2900xt, its drivers are far better on vista, but i would wait and see what fps you get first

8800GTS/2900XT are on par with 8800GTS using less power and making less noise, the 8800GTS (320MB) is by far the best value card available right now and is ideal for users who game at standard 1280*1024 resolution or similar but reviews have shown it to keep up with the 640mb version even at 1600*1200 with AA/AF in most games.

Your best choice imo would be the 8800GTX or wait until November for the new batch of cards which should further lower prices.
