Just finished upgrading my system to the following -

Core Duo E6600
Sapphire Radeon x1950Pro 512 MB
1 GB ddr2 RAM

Amongst other things.

However, when playing Need For Speed Most Wanted the game runs smoothly at 1280 x 1024 with 2 x AA but then goes all jerky for a few seconds before being smooth again. In fact, this seems to happen at any setting. This has been happning all evening and it's quite annoying. Maybe it's a software setting that needs changing? Any help would be appreciated.

Im getting pretty bad performance on my X1950XT seeing as it a highend DX9 card i should get a lot more FPS than i do in CSS. Its most likley a driver issue as im hoping my low fps is due to crap drivers.

6.12's i used them with CCC. Then reofmormatted due to windows messing up and took the chance to use Ati tray tools.

Im only getting about 60 - 70 fps on css with 6aa 16af @ 1024x1280 with high settings which is pretty bad. And unplayable sometimes. And pretty bad fps in other games like fear.

Fresh install of XP on a new hard drive.

Installed the 6.12 Catalyst drivers. Thought that this wouldn't happen with a card like this... I don't want to go back to the 9800 Pro [even though it's not bad for what it is] :p

I don't see anything obviously wrong with your set-up, is the kit in your sig correct?

Have you tried turning down the 6xaa to 4xaa? Are those frame rates u mentioned min or max or average and what map is that on?

Ok I'm confused, are you talking AGP or PCI-E here?

Your new setup looks sweet! so is this the first time you have used multi-core? I'm just wondering if thats the case some of the games you been playing need a patch/fix when running on a multi-core cpu (some don't like it).

Also I am wondering what power supply you are using? SOmetimes graphics cards can act a bit sluggish if they can't get enough juice, but in this example the X1950 Pro is pretty undemanding of the PSU (the X1900XT/X1950XT need a lot more power) so I don't think thats the problem (unless you got a real shifty PSU?).

I was talking about PCI-E... and yes, I couldn't go back to an AGP 9800 Pro on a PCI-E board, I was just being silly :D

This is my first day with multi core! Before I was running a P4 at 2.8 Ghz. So what patches or fixes would help?

As for the power supply... it's a 400W Antec jobbie. That should be enough since, as you say, the x1950pro isn't very power-consuming.

Welcome to multi-core! :)

Now u better go read up on the gaming forums about any issues with multi-cores and 'certain' games :D

Install the latest xp multicore hotfixes (see cpu forum!) and see if that helps!

1GB RAM is a bit low for gaming, especially for that super rig. If it is using the HD as RAM that could cause the slow down.

have you tried installing the latest patch for NFS:MW? I notice the same thing as you experience sometimes, gameplay freezes and jerks for a few seconds then continues. Perhaps its a bug and needs patching!

I was having some trouble with my X1950XT when I first installed it, I was getting terrible jerking in CSS and Warhammer Mark of Chaos, so I did a fresh install and it sorted it all out.

Was probably something to do with the old nVidia drivers causing some problems. Now my machine runs like a dream.

E6600
AW9D-Max
2GB Geil
X1950XT Sapphire

:)

i have a 1950 pro and on cs source dust 2 with max setttings but hdr off (dont like it ) i get 120fps minimum normally about 150.

im using the drivers that came wioth the card, worked so well i aint updting em until i have to lol

dont know if this means anything or not but have seen a coupel of posts with xp1950 probs with 6.12 drivers. may just be conincidence though

i was a bit worried when my x1950pro came as it said on the box my PSU should be a minimum of 450W and mine's only 420W, but all was fine in the end. :)

yeah i think they have to ear on side of caution really and so suggest a little extra. a 1950pro shoudl run on a 400watt fine. unless you got some silly amount of hard disks, fans and lights lol

you need to apply the dual core processor affinity fix for NFSMW.

This is a common bug in the game.

Start the game open up task manager and set affinity of the game to one core.

This will fix the problem.

There is a fix that you do to cure the problem do a google.
