Hi everybody,

I'm thinking of swapping the heatsink and fan over on my x1950pro (it's the OcUK value jetway model) and am thinking of swapping the fan over since it's ridiculously noisy in my otherwise quiet computer...

Looking here, the Arctic Cooling accelero X2 doesn't fit, so I thought think I might go for the Zalman VF900-cu.

Should this work? Anybody tried this themself?

Thats the jobby i was looking at getting, as the stock one is good but is a bit whooshy when it speeds up.

Now i can o'c my card it might be worth getting, and at that price u cant go wrong really

That should work though

Thanks for replies so far. Should the S1 by itself keep it cool enough? Won't it need a fan? I won't be overclocking the card, but want to be a bit cautious since the card doesn't have a thermometer on it. Perhaps the turbo pack would be a good idea?

Anyone know why the Arctic Cooling accelero X2 doesnt fit ? As I have ordered one for my OCUK1950 as I naturally assumed it would fit !

What software can you use to read the temperature on the x1950Pro or is it not possible? I am trying to check the temp on a Sapphire one

I think that ATITools allows you to see the temperature somehow. However, my card doesn't have a thermometer in it, so I'm not certain...

Reading around a bit, it seems as though one potential problem, at least with some X1950 pros, with changing the stock cooler is that the voltage regaulation module (VRM) needs cooling. This is why artic cooling now sell an extra heat spreader that you're supposed to use with the X1950 pro and S1: see their website. However, this is designed for the reference layout of the x1950pro, which I think I've read that the jetway x1950 pro (which I got after ordering the OcUK value x1950 pro) doesn't follow. I don't know about the X1, I'm afraid, Wolf11.

So now I'm left completely confused... Apparently the problem is only with certain designs of x1950pros reportedly including the sapphire. Googling for "x1950 vrm" isn't encouraging. Does anybody have any particular experience with changing the cooling on the jetway x1950pro?

Ahh cheers for that :( ..I have an Accelero X2 coming tomorow anyhow, but it now sounds like it might be a waste of time, still I'll see if I can adapt it or something ,if not boo hoo :/

You never know, it might turn out to be fine --- good luck! Would be good to know how it goes.

Edit:
Looking here, somebody says that the jetway doesn't have the same problematic vrm, so perhaps things will be alright after all :)

In fact, looking at jetway's website here, there's a picture of their x1950pro with a slightly different cooler than the one mine has. This doesn't have anything special for the VRM, so perhaps any kind of cooler ought to be okay. I think I'll give the S1 a try.

I can now confirm 100% after offering it up that the Accelero X2 does not fit :( as there are a row of capacitory type things in the way ,so I have ordered an S1 instead !

Cant the fan be adjusted so ... say set it at 60% or something.

also is someone does fit one of the above coolers please post results and some pics...... looks promising.

Perhaps - but the heatsink doesn't look up to much and there's no thermometer on the card, so reducing the fan speed just using a resistor seems a little risky.

I should be getting one today so I'll post pics when/if I get it installed. Won't be able to say how effective it is, though, given the absent thermometer...

Just installed the Accelero S1 --- took a while, but mainly due to me messing around and a botched first attempt meaning I had to clean away the first load of arctic silver. Also stuck in a 12cm akasa amber since the S1 has no fan of its own. The accelero's pretty big and covers probably both of the PCI-E slots on my gigabyte P35C-DS3R, but I don't use them anyway so it doesn't bother me. The computer's now so quiet that when I first switched it on, I thought that I'd forgotten to plug in the mobo power cable. I have pics of the X1950pro card with the accelero if anybody's interested.

Strangely, my wireless connection seems to be working much better now. Might be because the case is in a slightly different position, but I can't help but wonder whether the original fan was causing a bit of interference..

Anyway, I'm off now to test it properly using flight sim x :)
