Hi

My brother bought the Sapphire X1950 Pro, but it caused his system to crash after around 5-10 minutes of game playing. After reading a few customer reviews on the internet, it seems there was a problem with the cooling on the card.

Should he go for the Sapphire X1950 Pro Ultimate, are these cards more stable?

Or he should go for the Gainward 7950GT?

Or should he go for something else in that price range? Only really looking to spend about 150 pounds overall.

Thanks for any advice

He should buy the HIS x1950 Pro that's on offer in OCUK, that comes with a monster arctic cooling fan/heatsink, and it's also factory overclocked. Job done. :)

First I heard of it?

There are lots of reasons why the 'crash' could have happened, perhaps tell us about what the system is (PSU etc) and what card did he have installed before? which game crashed etc?

He may well have a faulty card, I've now had 2-3 VGA card DOA over the past few years, its happens, but I'm not sure about this 'faulty cooling thing' as the x1950 PRO is the cOOlest running card I had yet . . .

I can't post the site which had the reviews on it as it's probably a competitor (even if it's American?)

The system it's running in is a...Core 2 duo 6300,1GB DDR2 RAM, Akasa 500W PSU.

Should he go for the card recommended in post 2 or are there any other cards worth considering at that price range?

He has the option of getting the 512MB version of this card, or getting the 256MB version and getting an extra 1GB of RAM (he only has 1GB atm)

What should he do?
