X1950 Pro/XT or X1900 XTX?

Im thinking about buying an X1900 XTX secondhand for around the £170 mark, but I am not sure how good it is compared to the X1950 series, specifically the Pro and the XT.

Can someone please explain to me the difference, and also let me know if there is a better card to be had for £170 or if the 2nd hand 1900 XTX is the best option. Cheers.

I would say neither, wait a bit and go for an 8800gts/gtx. I know they're considerably more, but the performance difference is VERY noticeable. I've just replaced me X1900XT 512m with an 8800gts and its the only vidcard upgrade I've done where I can just max out every game option, run 4 x AA, 8 x AF at 1680 x 1050, and ALL the games I run are smooth with no stuttering at all, with framerates always in the high 40s at the very least. Plus when it eventually gets released and used, the 8800gts/gtx is DX10 compliant which the earlier ATI cards aren't.

I dont want to wait a bit, I want one now, and dont want to spend more than £170. The 880GTX cards are way too much, plus I only have an X23800 and 1gb RAM. I want to replace my X800GTO.

The x1900XTX and the XT are the same card, the XTX just has slightly faster CPU core and and memory speed (621/648MHz core and 720/774MHz), the PRO, im not sure that there was a x1900pro.

Im thinking the X1950XT (can be had new with 256MB) is about as fast as an X1900XTX - at least up to 1280x 1024 res. Above that and the X1900XTX would win out by more.

So if you play at 1280x 1024 or less i would go with a new card for piece of mind.

PCI-E Cards,

7600 GS (£69) , 7600 GT (£100) , 7900 GS (£110) , x1950 Pro (£125) , x1950 XT (£170) , 8800 GTS (£290) , 8800 GTX (£375) .

Those are the cards to go for at the moment. We are eagerly awaiting either NVidia or ATi to plug the gap between the x1950 XT and the 8800 GTS.

Melbournes pricelist ;);)

What? :D Okay, I have been posting that quite often now...

I was thinking of a *what card buyers guide* style post, but then I'd have to update it every 48 hours with the new version/prices!

Might work for AGP though...

That gap will be plugged soon when the new cheaper 320mb GTS comes out thats getting prep'd for launch now, so x1950pro's, and x1950 XT's are going to have to be omitted from that list as well, as it will be pointless buying an old gen card for around the same price as a new gen card, as some ppl are saying its going to be about the £150-£200 mark judging by the $ prices, but if you can't wait then id get the x1950 XT 256mb now, as its pointless buying a 2nd hand x1900 for the same price, but if you can wait a bit, then id wait for the cheaper GTS, should be a cracker. :)

Wont be long before ATi's old cards are not going to be worth buying anymore as Nvidia are getting their full range of 8 series cards out by the looks of it now, and ATi's only competition, and which will only be in the high end market will be the R600 around end March, beginning April, gona be a very bumpy ride for them from now on as they'll have all those old gen cards just sitting on shelves collecting dust for months, and even when R600 comes as thats only high end as said, so Nvidia will still be enjoying the low/mid range market as well until ATi get around to getting their low/mid range cards of R600's out, but Nvidia will be that far ahead they will have their next lot ready by then. :(

Lets just hope ATi have another 9700pro on their hands and the R600 is an absloute stormer, and blows 8800 GTX clean away, as to be delayed by that long it will have to be, they need to win consumers back, as if it does then everyone thats in the low/mid range will be waiting to see how those cards are when they come out, as everyone will be expecting those to stomp on Nv's 8 series low/mid range, but if R600 turns out to be a couple of frames here or there over the GTX, then that will be bad. :(

So basically theres going to be a cheaper 8800 series priced around the £200 mark that will be DX10 compatible?

Agreed, could be looking at an all green list by the end of January(?)

They'll be discounted like mad to shift them, when up against faster reasonably priced competition - remind you of any product in particular, AMD, I mean ATi? :D
