Hi Everyone,

Firstly, I'm new here so sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but as far as I can tell it's not.

I'm looking at upgrading my computer, currently I have:

- 480 Watt PSU
- P4 3GHz 800MHz FSB w/HT
- Intel® D875PBZ
- ATI RADEON™ 9800 XT 256MB
- 3GB RAM

I was looking at getting:

- Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
- ASUS P5W DH Deluxe
- Corsair Dominator TWIN2X6400C4D 2048MB
- ATI Radeon X1950 XT-X 512MB or BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 640MB

Now it seems the main benefit of the 8800 over the ATI is the Dx10 Support but even that hasn't been tested properly yet? What am I best off doing... going with the ATI and having a good card for the dx9 or chancing it with the 8800 and its dx10 capabilities...

That said, when are dx10 games coming out and should I wait for more graphics cards or not? Plus, is the rest of the setup suitable? I'm thinking a new PSU may be in order also...

Just need some guidance really...

Thanks,

Sam

GTS your not getting it for DX 10,You'll be getting it cause its whoops all the x1900 range with ease.

8800 is the fastest card for DX 9.

I would get the 965/650i chipset too.Better than the P5W DH deluxe

put it like this mate,

the 8800gts is pretty much going to be naff ON dx10. dx10 isnt even out yet so its pretty much all for dx9 at the moment, and its allso a bonus that its the quickest card on dx9..

so when dx10 is out there will be more dx10 cards and the 8800gts will be bottom of the dx10 range...

so if your buying a 8800, its for dx9 pretty much, and its the best one available for price

but me how ever, im waiting on the ati x2900xt-x R600 ati card

Fully agree, forget Dx10 as the 8 series is for Dx9, and in Dx9 they destroy every ATi card out, and have much better image quality. :)

Btw welcome to the forums, and if your looking for a new PSU Corsair 520w will be fine, although your 480w may be ok, depends what the amperage is on the 12v rails, you can find that info on the sticker thats on the side, or top of it. :)
