Heat Problems

It looks like i might have heat problems on both my card's.

I have been runing ATI Tray Tools and have found that on boot up my x1950's have a start gpu temp around 46..

however when leaving the machine on idle overnight the gpu temps have a high of 76.

I then tested company of heroes and played until my machine froze, i then rebooted and checked the log file and the last reading of the gpu temp was 100.

and had been running at that temp for about 10mins before the crash.

Is there a recommend cooler i can get fro these cards or should i try and arrange a rma.(although the cards are probably just over a year old)

wooo that temp is way to hight. the start up idle temp is correc but there is deffinatly a problem with the coolin. check t rhe cooler for dust they can get blocked also does your case have good ventialtion ?

has it been fine untill recently ?

76 idle is high temp, and since it creeps up overnight when doing nothing im guessing the case cooling is not up to the job. also are you using a 3d screensaver of some sorts, those idle temps are silly high.

As said above check for dust on the cooler & remove if excessive.

You could first remove the current cooler, reapply thermal paste & reseat & see if its any better. Or you could get something like the Arctic Cooling Accelero X2. I believe that should work for X1950 sereis cards.

Though i diid also notice the Thermaltake TMG AT2 ATI VGA Cooler.
Apparently its good at lowering temps (cools core & memory) but no quiter than a stock X1950XT cooler.

Thanx

Hi Guys thanx for the replys..

with regards to the ventilation i am currently running without the side of my case on.

tbh i have had this problem since i put the machine together last september(ish). But with one thing nand another i have never had the chance to isolate the problem.

the one thing that is strange is that i get the same problem from both cards even if i am only running one at a time.. And they are from different manufacturers.

the master is HIS and the second card is connect 3D.
