X1950GT: Power requirments?

I've done an extensive search but cannot find the exact power requirements for the X1950GT PCI-E

I understand it has the same GPU as the Pro version which requires a 30amps/450w PSU, but as this is running at a lower clock/memory speed, I wandered if the power requirements are reduced accordingly.

Rig as per sig plus a DVD RW and a CDRW combo drive. My PSU is rated at 28amps on the 12v rail (336w/12v=28a).

TIA, dagwoood.

I went from a 9800pro to a x1800xt and the power usage appears to have risen massively, along with the heat of the CPU and PSU. CPU used to idle at about 13c (on watercooling) and now it's about 30-36 with the x1800. I might try a nvidia sometime and see if it's any better.

I'm using a 480watt enermax PSU and that seems to be being strained.

power requirments for that card are low ish, your enermax 480w will be more than enough for that card. don;t worry about a thing.

Thanks for that Cyber-Mav but I have a Tagan 480; think you've confused me with Nasher :)

Thanks Nasher but as I understand it an X1800XT requires a lot more power than an X1950.

that tagan 480w will still be plenty for a x1950gt card, those cards are same as x1950pro just clocked down a little and still on the 80nm process so power consumption will be lowish and your psu will easy handle that, man it will probably handle 2 in crossfire with no problems.

Hmm, so that's why they were so cheap a few months ago? How much more do they use compared to a x1950?

x1800xt is a bit lower than a x1900xtx in power consumption. the x1950pro is around 50w less on power consumption than the x1900xtx.

x1900xtx is around 120w on power consumption

thats from xbitlabs.com

x1950pro is around 75w power consumption thats for sure.

x1800xt is around 110w.

here is a more indepth chart:

that should cover most of the cards, and this link here:
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/gf8800_11.html
covers the g80.

so that should answer all your questions on gfx card power consumption.
