I'd thought i'd have a little tinker with my new setup. As the title says, I have a sapphire X1950 pro 512mb and used the ATI CCC and the overdrive function.

I upped the core speed about 10mhz and the screen started wobbling and distorting. I set back to default and tried upping the core the minimum amount from stock 580 mhz to 587mhz and still got the same problem.

I have a 500W PSU in my raidmax case and have the correct power going to the card and motherboard.

Do i have a card that can't be clocked at all or am i missing something ?

Ive unlocked it but havnt changed anything, havnt got the guts and im trying to sell it so...

Tell you what ill up it one notch and report back, but if it breaks, THIS IS SPPPAAARRRTAAAA!! *BOOT*

Update: My comp is horrificly slow at the moment as ive only got 512mb of RAM and im patching a game.
Will try a little later :D

Using XP SP2.

Doing some searches on this forum leads me to believe this is a common problem for the X1950pro......

Havn't found an answer to the problem, other than maybe ditching the ATI CCC and using ati tool tray.

I am using vista 64 and it works fine for me with the latest drivers,
Run the automatic overclock and see what it returns, i found that the values it gave caused artifcating so i had to ease it back a bit.
I will check what i got it set to when i get home (probably post tomorow)

Rig is in my sig

lol, I cant even get past 638 on the core and 711 on the mem with my Powercolor x1950Pro pci-e. How are you getting those clocks on the memory?

Im using xp pro with cat 7.6.

You can regulate the voltage on that though cant you? With mine I have no options for increasing voltages

whoa dude, thats a wee bit too techinical for me! i just slider the slider and hope it doesnt pop - will be my downfall i expect

If you're reffering to my clocks, it was done in the ati overdrive section of the 7.6 cat's.

will probably go higher with just the 7.6 driver, no ccc and ati tray tools.

I just wanted to see the overdrive overclock for me which didn't happen until the 7.6 cat's.

Anyone else get atifacts when putting the PCI-E bus upto 100Mhz ?

I set it all up for overclocking, and it was stable playing HL2, but in BF2 I was getting little black squares flickering across the screen.

I took the overclocks off and they were still there, so I set the bios back to optimized defaults and they went away.

PCI-E bus is set to auto, but I don't know what it set's itself at on auto ?

it should be running at 100mhz anyway, you may want to lock it at 100mhz but some people say they get better clocks when they increase it slightly. i myself dont notice any difference tbh.

i would use ati try tools to overclock your card and if you want to get a bit more out of it when you reach your max clocks you can use atitool with a modded atitool.exe and edit the cards ram timings, i have tightened up my cards ram considerably and i get a nice performance gain ;)
