Has anyone had any trouble with the HIS X1950Pro 256MB IceQ3 Turbo?

Basically, after a random amount of time in 3D apps, the screen goes all alpha over tango with bright coloured pixels. I'm assuming it's an overheating issue but case ventilation isn't, IMO, much of an issue (1x 120mm intake; 1x 120mm exhaust; 1x 120mm in the PSU - although the intake fan is forcing air across 3 toasty hard drives).

I've tried Cat 7.4 and now 7.1... I thought 7.1 had fixed it but sadly not.

As a stop gap measure, I've zip-tied a 92mm fan over the vid card (to the CPU heatsink) and not yet had tried gaming again - I just thought I'd ask for views/opinions in the mean time.

Any ideas?

(PSU is a Zalman ZM600-HP 600W beastie)

a lot of the HIS cards seem to be dieing, tbh I think its RMA time...
His seems to often clock them too high...

Cheers snowdog.

What's had me 'worried' is that I've gone through two Sapphie X1950Pro Ultimates and switched to HIS as I didn't want another duff card... guess it's just my luck!! :(

Is it worth, to avoid hassle, getting a normal X1950Pro and not one of these Ultimate/Turbo pre-overclocked things?? If so, how noisy are standard X1950Pro coolers?

Bad luck I think tbh, everyone some time ago seemed to recommend these sappphires instead of the HIS versions to prevent a faulty card.

As far as the noise: I don't know, I know a lot of the HIS seem to devellop a fan rattle after some time, but are silent otherwise compared to most coolers...

If I were you though, I'd indeed get the cheapest sapphire non overclocked 1950 pro and ignore all the factory oc's...

I have a HIS X1950Pro 512MB IceQ3 Turbo.

I've only had it about 3 months and bought it as its the best thing i could upgrade to (agp).

unfortunately it turns out its a rev 1 and thats why my games are crashing all over the place; tonight i got fed up with it, after doing a full clean reinstall of winxp and cod 2: i put my powercolour x800gto back in and everything is stable again.

£165 down the drain.

really getting cheesed with pc's just lately.

Blinkin' 'eck!
Time to speak to OcUK methinks!

I don't see why I should have to use a further 92mm fan to get it to work when I bought this HIS IceQ3 (and the previous Sapphire Ultimate) for the quiet!

Yeah RMA it, HIS have replaced the version1 with a new version2 which shouldn't have the problems.

err excellent ! .. except ive never had to return anything before and i heard oc can be a tad ...reticent about returns, whats the procedure do you know loadsamoney ??
will they take it back as technically it works (unless you play games with it heheh)

tia.

EDIT

i read the thread referenced earlier and imo it doesnt look good: the guys card was producing chess board-like patterns and oc still said it was ok; mine doesnt artifact as such .. you just play happily along then after 15 - 30 mins it (the game/s) crash out then i get a brief rolling chessboard pattern before the screen stays black, the monitor flashes 'power saving' and the sound repeats a bit before just making a squealing noise.
i have to hard reset at this point.

it does it on every game i have tried except everquest 2 lol.
the x800 gto just works. same driver, same games no problems.

to me it looks like im stuck with a £165 elephant -- wont be buying from oc again methinks.

good luck with you other guys with the revision 1's though o/

Ah, but herein lies a slight problem... the label on the box (where the s/n lives) has a -V2 at the end of one of the codes. I'm assuming that means it's a rev 2 board. Typical! As a precaution, I've stopped buying lottery tickets! :)

And to top it all, the extra 92mm fan is actually doing the square root of nothing to help. It still gives up with a screen full of rather fetching and brightly coloured squares.

I've spoken (OK, emailled) to the good people at OcUK and have an RMA number... just awaiting an email as to where/how to send it back.

My MSI one was superb, they fitted a great cooler :D I sold it and have nevr heard back about a problem since :)

There are major dodgy batches though, unfortunately! Great cards that they are as well

Yeah just send them a webnote requesting an RMA and explaining the problem, then once you get the RMA number you just send your card back to them, then if it is found to be faulty they send you a replacement, and you get your postage back for returning the card, could take 7-10 days for you to get your new card depending on how busy they are, as it could be less than that, and thats assuming its still within 28 days, if its outside, then you do the above as normal, but OcUK will send the card off to the manufacturer who will send you the replacement, and that could take 8+ weeks.

Yeah the V2's should have the problems fixed, but the trouble is they have just came out to replace the V1's so its going to take a while before they filter out, and we see if indeed they have sorted the problems. :)
