I have just purchased pre-ordered a GeCube ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB GDDR3 VIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (AGP) for my PC! I know its not DX10 compatible, and its AGP but I cant afford a full system upgrade for a least a year! Do you guys think this might help resurrect AGP for a while? I know there are shed loads of AGP users still out there with a similar predicament to myself, I have read this card is a lot better than nVidia's offering the 7800GS!, do you think this was a wise move, some input on the subject please guys!

My rig:
AMD Athlon X2 4400+ (Skt939 - @ 2.5GHz 250x10 @ 1.3V)
MSI neo2 Platinum nForce 3 Ultra 250
Sapphire X850XT PE @ stock
Corsair 2GB DDR XMS4000PT TwinX (2x1GB) CAS3 (500Mhz @ 3-4-4-8 2.75V)
Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty Pro Series
True Power 550W PSU

The rest of your rig is pretty powerful. I think you're set for some time to come. It's the only high-end AGP card for sensible money. I think you'll be pleased.

I would have thought it is the right move, as you have a fast AGP system. If you wanted to go to PCI-E (and I appreciate that it might be a bit late for this) the I believe there is a ASrock mobo that does s939, AGP, PCI-E, DDR and DDR2 RAM.

Still, that card in your system will fly. Would be worth posting your 3d mark numbers as there are a lot of posts of recent wondering what performance you'll get from this card in a high end AGP system.

Yes 1950pro is a lot better than the 7800GS but is more or less on par with the Gainward 7800GS+ which uses 7900GT core with full 24 pipes.

It's not a bad move but tbh for the price I'd just buy a PCI-E mobo and a 1950pro PCI-E version which will last longer until well into next year, since you have a very decent 939 rig that is worth keeping.

IMHO - it's a diagonal upgrade: it won't be MUCH faster than your current X850XT to the point that is is really noticeable in resolutions lower than 1600x1200 (IMHO) but it will bring DX9c features to your computer's arsenal.

To be honest, I - personally - would just save up and wait for a big upgrade with VISTA... whenever that pokes its head out of the rabbit hole.

My card GeCube ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB GDDR3 VIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (AGP) arrives tomorrow, I will install it and post up some 3DMark06 and 05 scores up on the thread to help people decide whether the upgrade is viable for them or not, hope it will be of help,

I disagree, TBH. I went from (essentially) an X850XTPE to an X1800XT (about as fast as an X1950Pro) and was blown away by the performance increase at even 1280x960.

Definitely a viable upgrade, and will tide you over for quite some time to come.
