Are these cards good to play as they come or does a bit of tweaking make a big difference?

i.e. does it allow more setting to be cranked up in games, or will it be minimal difference?

Yes it will but..........

the 8800GTS 320mb which has DX10 support is much faster also is coming on monday for under £200, we are all guessing there will be a card around the £170-80 mark and that would be a much wiser investment!

Even though 8800GTS can be had for a bit more im still happy for my £200 on my X1950XT i found that it was my processor limiting my FPS.

We're talking bout the 320mb version, the new one should be lessthan £200 for a non OC'd version which by all means will be faster than what he is considering

I will admit the ati x1950 XT was a good buy before christmas but now it's quickly pushed aside by the increasingly better deals from the 8800 GTS.
