Well, not exactly arrived. Had to drive 19 miles to pick it up as Citylink failed to even attempt the delivery GRR. Then 19 miles back home. Not impressed, but anyway.

Had 1 reset without even doing anything so far lol. Running a QTec 500W with apparently only 18A on the 12V rail EEK! Will have to see how that affects things.

OK... will update as it happens lol.

My spec Sapphire x1950xt @ stock, C2D E4300@ 2.62Ghz, Asrock 4CoreDual, 1Gb DDR.

Have to agree with the other two posters, If you were running a desktop machine then Qtec would scrape in.

But the moment you put a heavy duty gaming card into a rig, You need a good PSU, and Qtec are horrible.

You need to replace it, Otherwise you could end up paying for a lot more than just a new PSU. :(

lol, thanks for the support guys :p

OK.... might need a new PSU, as on a couple seconds on where the monster jumps out the what at the air balloon it was artifacting. Then on the Snow level, artifacts (triangles) where all over the shop.

On the plus side.. got a out the box score of 5176

QTec has been my old faithful for more than a few years now, perhaps you guys are right though. Will try and get another PSU.. need something that will just run my current setup, with potential to overclock this x1950xt I have. Nothing expensive however, as I mentioned, I hadn't budgeted for this :(

Just tried far cry as well. Looked very good and played sooooo smooth, then I got to a vehicle and it was awful.. then other stuff started looking real bad :(

Matthew
p.s. I love the pic :D If you live anywhere near Tavistock, Devon and see a big ass explosion.... ... .. .

You WILL.

The corsair probably wouldnt be worth it as its overkill unless hes got the cash to spend on it ;)

hehe... i think i get the message here guys :p

Max £50 really, purely because I wasn't expecting to have to buy a new psu. I can always sell this one on if I need a better one later. The huntkey ones look ok (and cheap), but they don't state the ampage on the rails grr.

I'd hate to resort to P* *orld for a PSU this weekend

Right.. guess I might be selling the flak jacket and HOTAS setup then lol.

Don't worry, I didn't take offence, I thought it was funny :D Qtec was prob overdue a change anyway, wasn't made for such high draw gfx cards (or anything else lol). But it has served me well and reliably.

Looking at my over budget price OCZ StealthXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply.

Although the Thermaltake W0106 Toughpower 700W Modular PSU looks pretty nice for the same price. Pretty much overkill, but the cheaper PSU don't state the rated output, and from all the tests I have read, they don't normally make the claimed power anyway.

I have to disagree with you, my qtec 650 watts couldnt even cope ( reboots, system instability when gaming) with a p4 3.0 ghz, 6600GT gfx, a normall desktop machine.

blimey.. not even a 650w! Well it was only like £24 or something stupid, but it crashed AGAIN whilstjust chatting on MSN. Will get a new PSU asap :) Real gutted can't use the new card over the weekend + monday + tuesday though :(

I can vouch for the Corsair HW520, I have one running my XT and it seems fine, quiet, no artifacts or anything like that

£65, but it does have a 5 year warranty at least.

Been running a q-tec (gulp) in my media PC (emergency purchase after the old PSU failed at the worsed possible time) for over a year and so far its been running fiÝáÆëöæ©y^f°¥ÿÿÿzQh

I can also vouch for the Corsair HX520 PSU, it is a gem. I had a Jeantech 700watt powering my X1900XT Crossfire/Opteron 165 OC rig and I had horrible interference on the screen. Change the PSU to a HX520, the problem went.

It's quiet, it's incredibly powerful, it IS a must buy.

I got mine from somewhere that uses google checkout, so it knocked £10 off my order, and the final price I paid was £63.10 including shipping.

Best money I've spent on something in ages. Trust me, don't bother with a different PSU, something will always be annoying (the fans too lud, it makes clicking noises, etc). With this PSU, your safe, for a VERY long time (it has a 5 year warranty).
