Hi,
Just tested my new card in the system in my sig. And im a bit baffled with the performance. In counter strike source @ 1024x1280 with 6aa 16af with every setting on high fps can drop to 50 in a firefight. I ran fear maxxed out the setting @ 1024x960 and i was hitting 25 fps. I would have though i would get plenty more fps. Im using ATI 6.12 BETA's. Could the CPU be bottlenecking the gfx card ? CPU is at stock.

Try different drivers?

You should be getting 0% under 25FPS on the FEAR stress test at 1280x1024, with about 80% over 65FPS (or whatever the highest boundary is)

Don't most CS players end up turning the detail off to ensure perfectly smooth fps? Ask yourself whether you really need 6xAA 16XAF or whether 50fps is all that bad.
Think turning soft shadows off helps out no end in FEAR.
You have a decent-ish rig but there's still gonna be plenty of games out there that you're not gonna be able to run at max settings, even at TFT res..

also what card did you have before. Many people report issues switching from nVidia to ATI without a total rebuild of the OS.

i have a 1950pro and e6700 at 3.3 and i in counter strike source at the same settingsyou mentioned my fps never goes below about 125 and is normally about 150-200.

have you got vsync enabled ? that will make the fps less

I reformatted my pc and then installed the beta cats. Must hopefully be a driver issue ? but is my cpu bottlenecking.

Is your CPU at stock? Because of the low resolution and high end card i think you could be.

I get 50fps in source only when im in a huge fire fight with more than 10 people on the screen and thats at max settings and 4xAA and 16xAA 1680x1050

Which ones, there isnt any drivers out for the x1950 XT's yet, which Beta drivers are you using, as as far as im aware only the drivers on the CD that you get with card are compatible.

Well using the 6.10 drivers that came with cd i ran fear ext point test at 1440 x 900 top settings.
0% below 25
8% between 25-40
92% above 40.
completed the game never had a problem with low frame rates, maybe try the 6.10's that came on your cd.
Oh and that was on a A64 4000 clocked to 3ghz

well, my X1950XT has just about FINALLY accepted the driver from Connect 3d's site...no other drivers are working.

On a stock Conroe E6600 with these god-awful drivers I managed to get an average of 88fps 100% above 40 - all settings to maximum on manual settings of the video/display etc.

how do u check fps in F.E.A.R. ? I wanna test with my pc aswell ! what do u write in concule?

you go into the game settings and make changes via the "custom" choice. when you make the desired changes (or not) there is an option to "test settings" which launches a 60 second or so test giving you FPS and so forth.
