If they are looking at a septempber launch then it wont take off. Its way too late in the year. I would see ATI sticking their R580 cores on X1900GTO2's to clear stock and release new cards by then.
 
sounds good, however nvidia have the edge with the 7950 out already... this mean people are tempted and they will get cheaper by september. but then ATI releasing that card then will loose out due to people having Directx 10 around the corner
 
ati should be able to undercut nvidia with a smaller die size. im glad they are (slowly) moving back to single slot coolers. hopefully it will stay that way. apparently (read another article) nvidia and ati are going to slow down speed improvements and start looking to reduce heat out put and power draw -> i suppose their logic is to make it so we can finally have dual core GPUs etc.

It won't lose out, if everyones got any sense they would'nt buy a DX10 card until theres something using it, and that is gona be a fair number of cards after the G80/R600, so they'll be old hat before anything comes out for em, may as well stick to your DX9 card to run yer DX9 stuff, instead of splashing out £400+ on a DX10 card that can only run DX9 stuff (as DX10 stuff aint appearing yet), then have to splash out £400+ again for another DX10 card as the DX10 stuff has finally started to appear.

god im itching for a graphics upgrade, no fear of overclocking either so maybe unlocking a GTO or similar would be no problem.
