ok im upgrading, and i cant afford a swanky 768mb 8800 but in a couple of months i will have enough cash to buy one. so im looking for a card to see mee through as i currently dnt have pci express. Ive read in a magazine that the above card is the best cheap power for money out there. i was just wondering if anyone had one and what performance they have had and what i could expect in games like supreme commander, ghost recon and rfactor.

Have one myself, excellent buy if you really can't afford any more money. Plays SC fine at 1920x1200. Mine OC faster with the CC than a X1900XT-X ( Faster memory as standard ). Nearly 7000 on 3D Mark 06 on my [email protected]. Best card in that price range bar none!

Personally I would save a bit more cash and get an 8800 GTS 320, it will last longer and be cheaper in the long run and easier to sell for more money. I'm only using a X1950XT because it was a free upgrade. Still not sure what to do about a 8900 or R600.

Be mad to spend £150 on old tech now, Nvidias mid-range 8600's are coming end of this week/beginning next (17th March supposedly) and they will be around £100-£150, also be better than the x1950 XT as they are next gen as well, i certainly wouldn't lash out £150 on an old tech card with a much/better next gen card just days away for around same price/cheaper, be a choker that. :D

I was in a similar situation and I went with a used x1950xt. I would have gone with a x1950 pro but I tend to keep my hardware for a while and the extra oomf looked better in the long run. I'm still on s939 and just moved to PCI-E. Vista and a good selection of DX10 software is still far away and even when it does become mainstream, there'll be price drops and probably a bunch of even faster model cards out. I can only game at a max of 1440x900 so I'm happy with my current purchase. Core 2 Duo will probably be on the cards too with my DX10 leap.

my gf has a connect3d x1950xt

its very nice, she gets about 9500 in 3dmark05 with A64 3200+ and 2gig ram

very good fps in games as well, sometimes think its better than my SLI 7800s, lol

Custom PC, yeah? They do good reviews, but the magazine business is about 2 months behind what's current. The 8800 GTS 320MB is what is the best around that price point.
