Hi.

I have the opportunity to buy an X1950XT Master Card with 512mb GDDR4 ram for seriously cheap. Even if it is a great offer I am slightly hesitant as it could become obsolete during the year as it does not support DX10.

My main concern is GTA4, which I am not sure wether it will be DX10? I know this is likely to be the best bang for buck offer I will see in a long time... but like I said above, if it can't play new games properly it will still be a waste.

Please note this is not a price check :)

What does appeal to me is the new nice cooling solution and the 512mb GDDR4 which should make quite a difference compared to the X1800XT 256mb on higher resolutions.

Maybe, If you don't like it and decide to sell it on, you're still gonna get your money back, and if it's that "seriously" cheap... what do you have to lose.?

Maybe you are looking for something thats more value for money.

Hmmm depends on the price. Even at £100 the X1900 is still better for price to performance as the 8800 GTS 320mb version is only around 33% more powerful than the x1900 but double that random price I've picked out lol:rolleyes: . G80 (GTS 320mb/640mb/GTX) has the advanced DX10 capability though for future use which is very slowly getting integrated but will one day prove useful  . Only the 8800GTX nearly doubles a single x1900 (through 3d Mark 06 results).

If it's for long term and you don't think you will be upgrading for a year or more then your best getting the card that will take you through that time with smooth gaming at your given resolutions. Sure the X1900 is a stonking card still and it will run your games great but there are better and faster cards out there. If it's for long term then I'd opt for the 8800 like Easyrider has suggested. Who's to say you can't get this x1900 too if it's £80 or under and sell it on ;) or is there a budding gamer in your family that would absolutely love this x1900 that's on the go?. Shame to let such a great product going to waste. Mostly G80 owners will shout for you to jump the Nvidia way without the reasons for doing so :p.

If £200 isn't what you want to spend on an upgrade to your graphics right now then the X1900 will do great but if you love sliding that max detail slider up and want all the AA and AF you can imagine in upcoming games then you need the 8800.

I hope you don't mind me asking how much your getting it for. Don't need exact price. Is it between £50 - £70 / £70 - £90 or higher than £90?. I'm a nosey bugger. :D

If its seriously cheap go for it, 8800's are nee ******* good due to ***** drivers. :)

Ive just took my 320mb GTS out and put my x1800 XT back in due to Nv's atrocious drivers, running great again now, ATi drivers you can't beat em, **** all over Nvidia in the driver dept, 8800's have only had 2 sets since they were launched in Novemeber, and they crap, along with the 100's of beta's they keep churning out.

The bandwidth offered by the GDDR4 is quite simply awesome, you really have to reach silly resolutions to make this card choke.

If it's <£150 i'd go for it, it scales much better than the 8800GTS 320. :)

If you can get it for serious cheap then buy it, sell it on ebay, then use profit to go towards buying a new gen card?

Dont worry about DX10 just yet. There are 400 million computers out there that dont have it. Any game for a long time yet will run well on dx9. No game developer is going to do DX10 only games. They may throw in a little feature here and there but for the price your paying my guess is that card will still out perform may of the new mid range DX10 cards in that price range that hit the market.

It is less than £150 and above £100 ;)

Looks like I will go for it. Thanks for all the feedback guys.

It sounds the business killa. I have the same CPU nearly and same amount of RAM and with my card at the speed in my sig I hit 6490 in 3dmark06. This was on much older drivers and was about 6 months ago so it'll probably be better by now with new drivers.

Good luck with yer new card :D.
