X1950xtx temperature

Hi,

I have recently bought the HIS x1950xtx graphics card before that i had a connect 3d x850xt gfx card. With my old x850xt the idle temperature shown on ati overdrive was 45-38 degrees celcius but with my new x1950xtx its idle temperature is 70 degrees celcius and this is supposed to have a much better cooler, is this normal???

That seems quite high for idle, I'd expect that to be the load temp, and idle around 45 - 50.
My X1900XT-X went to around 45-50ish in 2D and up to 90 in 3D when I had the stock cooler which is poorer version of the cooler on your chip.

Seems pretty high, I'm idling at 38 degrees with the Zalman at 1300rpm. Try reseating and reapplying heat compound

ye i thought the temperature was a bit too high i recently RMA'ed a HIS 1950xtx because it was overheating and the replacement i have now is doing the same thing so i dont think it is the card itself, could it be the software would the 6.10 help if i had it? or could it be my mobo (MSI RD480 Neo2) that the card doesnt like

What case is it in? What case fans intake/exhaust? It's possible the ATI cooler is sucking in hot air from the southbridge chipset? (Nforce?)

I have Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940)
Vantec TF8025 Thermoflow 80mm Case Fan
And 2 other small fans on the sides

The gfx card itself is at the bottom part of the case with only a small gap from itself and the bottom part. The southridge is no where near the card.

Yeah ive heard thats normal for the x1950's as the cards are poorly designed, if you take the cooler off you will see some little pads that are stuck on the Ram chips, if you take them off and try putting the cooler back on, you'll see a huge gap between the Ram chips and the Coolers, which accounts for the high temps, theres a big thread over at Guru3D about this, loads of ppl complaining abut the poor design, and temps of 70+ at idle because of it, unfortunately Guru3D is down till about the weekend as they are moving servers, so i cant link to it.

thanks damn i bought this card for one of the main reasons being because of the new cooler and what i have heard from reviews about it cooling the whole case, (The IceQ cooling system draws cool air from inside the case and exhausts warm air outwards. This prevents the fan from recycling warm air to cool the VPU, which increases cooling performance and lower the air temperature inside the case significantly.) Im kinda disappointed considering the amount of money i spent on it
