I've currently got an ATI x1950xtx and I've been offered an HD3850 (single slot) for £30.

How do these compare?

Basically, should I do it?

Thanks,

G

p.s. I'm on XP pro not Vista. It's for COD4.

not very similar at all really.

At 1280x1024 I get better min FPS with everything set to max on COD4 than my brother with a overclocked 8800GTS 512MB vs my X1950XTX overclocked. Same systems in other respects, it's the smoke that kills his 8800GTS with 4xAA.

I moved from a x1950xtx to a 3870. I don't think it's worth going to a 3850. The only really appreciable benefit I have seen is in lower energy consumption and noise.

A good deal really at £30, I've got a HD3870 XT which is pretty much the same as the 3850 but just clocked a little higher.

I went from a pair of Crossfired x1950 xtx's and the performance is a tiny bit better than the crossfired pair. But a lot quiter and use a lot less power than the x1950 xtx's.

Sell the x1950 xtx on the bay as someone will pay good money for it, I bought the pair second hand on hear for £200 kept them for 4 months and sold them for £220.

CoD4 smoke kills the G92. I had a voltmodded 8800GTS 512mb and actually preferred my overclocked 3850 to it for CoD4. As soon as you put on anything past 2xAA with the 8800GTS frames went to the floor as soon as smoke grenades were thrown or airstrikes called.

I could run the exact same settings on my 3850 and get nearly double the min fps. I've said this on a few occasions but people usually just dismiss it as fanboy lies or something.

Ah ok that would explain that then. Also for £30 it's a good deal, I missed the price the first time I read it :o

I don't know if it makes any difference but I play at 1680x1050.

So if I pay £30 for this....how much should I be looking to get for the x1959xtx and should I leave my Accellero on there or put it on my new card?

Thanks,

G

tbh you can probably easily break even....and the 3850 does not run very hot, but if you have good cooling you can overclock it for some nice returns.

I just sold a X1950XT 256MB for £35 on MM, and I think I could've got £40. I wreckon £60ish on the bay.

fanboy liar!:rolleyes::D...

only kidding - I'll try 2xAA on my setup

Stick the XTX on the bay you'll end up making a profit I reckon. Some of the prices on there are ridiculous.

£30 for that card is an excellent deal and a worthy upgrade for so little money imo.

3850 will destroy the 1950xtx. I had the 256mb version severely overclocked and it struggled with some games. 3870 at standard eats them pretty much (except crysis), and that's with only a 4x pci-e slot!

£30 is an absolute steal for a £3850. Do it. I bet you'll end up IN PROFIT by selling the x1950xtx. Some peeps are nuts. i.e. just check out the 939 cpu prices.

I'm a bit concerned that my friend with the 3850 says that he has to turn down settings on COD4 on his card, at the moment mine runs everything on full iirc.
