Set up a machine with
A8N-SLI Premium
X2 3800+ (with stock cooler, but the pad removed and AS5 put on)
7800 GT
Antec Truepower 430W in an Antec 1080 AMG case (with the 2 fans at the back hooked up to the "fan only" connectors on the PSU)
(and other bits that don't seem totally important)

At full load (BOINC running two threads), the two fans are going nuts and I'm getting (from MBM5) 54°C CPU and 45°C Chipset - which by comparison seems pretty hot

Sooo, to the point - have I screwed up here?

That sounds way high to me for stock settings although i have never tried the stock fan, i bought mine OEM and got a Gigabyte cooler. My x2 3800+ is running at 2.5ghz (500mhz overclock) and temps are 52 max load and 36 idle.

Mmm you might want to get a different CPU cooler, although the stock one isn't meant to be bad.

Like above, my 3800+ is clocked to 2500Mhz and idles at 30ish, loaded at 42-44C.

The two fans at the back are exhausts right? Can you not hook them to the mobo so you can monitor their rpms - i.e. do they work properly? However, as the chipset isn't getting that hot, I would say that the air movement through the case is fine. Are you sure that the heatsink on the CPU is seated properly - have you tried seating it again?

Also, are these the same temps that are given is BIOS, not just a faulty software readings?

tbh though its because you do boinc - folding ***!

Yup.

No option AFAIK, they're connected with molexes

i.e. do they work properly?

Seem to be.

That's my first thought - either it isn't on properly, or I've screwed up putting AS on it.

Yup.

It's the same in Civ4 et al (anything that puts a decent load on the CPU) :p
