Been offered £100 for my current 3700+ SD. Im considering getting an X2 3800+ as with the cash from the 3700+ its only gonna cost £100

What are the defauly voltages and multis for this chip.

Will this chip, assuming i clock it to 2.5Ghz be as good as my 3700+? Ive noticed quite a few dual core patches for the games i play. Also i like the idea of encoding as well as gaming.

And is overclocking an X2 the same as clocking a regular a64?

volts are 1.35v multi is 9 i think

in single threaded things the x2 will be a little behind, encoding will be a lot better, but like you say a lot of dual patches for games will give ya more fps than the 3700

also overclocking them is exactly the same, though, for prime you will have to run 2 of them at the same tiime

max multi is 10 and the extra cache of the 3700 equates to about 100mhz so at the same clock speed in single threaded apps the 3700 would be marginally quicker but the 3800x2 would own the 3700 in multitasking and multithreaded apps.

1.35v is default multi is actually 10 :)

Overclocking was exactly the same for me, lot of the recent 3800s have clocked well. I have mine @ 2.6GHz on air, dual prime stable 10 hours. I love this chip for the speed and the fact I can minmize all my games and check stuff on the t'internet whilst I wait for the next round in game! Although if your encoding, it'll be highyl useful for that :D

and if you think about it, the chip still has 1MB L2 cache, same as a 3700, but not in a single core :)

Excellent, all being well i will have one tomorrow. I plan on using my freezer64 pro with it so do i need to clean the bottom of it before installing it on the X2? If so what with.

Will the OEM chip clock as well as the retail chip and is the retail one worth the extra tenner considering im using my freezer?
