this isnt from overclockers.co.uk btw.
basically got a x2 3800 socket 939 and its bailing out on running orthos dual core cpu and memory stress test.
now i've changed the memory and motherboard and the temps are running 50c load which is fine for the average joe.
so what i want to know is, if i send it to the competitor to get a replacement will they test it good and proper or will they do a "on/off" simple test?
also would it be better to send it to AMD or the competitor? (i'm possibly swaying towards AMD as they will be able to throughly test it no?)

cheers,
stephen

Sorry for the hijack but I have the same cpu and the same problem :(

I bought my AMD X2 3800+ off members market several months ago but only recently got round to using it. Basicly it randomly reboots, sometimes it can take 3 hours and other times 3 mins but it doesn't seem to have anything to do with stress.

I know its the CPU for sure because i've tried it in 2 different systems i also just swapped it out with a AMD X2 4400+ and that runs fine.

My problem is like the original poster really, accept i can't take it back to the retailer and i have no receipt. so my only option is with AMD

Anyone know if AMD will replace it without receipt, I do have the retail gubbins with it?

na thats fine mate go ahead we're both like you say in the same situation, except i've found out AMD dont deal with OEM products directly so if the competitor i've got it from doesnt take it back then i'm up a creek without a paddle :(
i aint sure AMD would take a retail cpu without a invoice maybe have a look on there site under warranty if you havent already.

Tried a different PSU?
yep a Q-Tec 550W (dont start with the bad replies please!) it was only a temporary measure i re-installed windows and still the same.
i also tried changing the hdd from the sata raptor to my 160gb ide and it still had problems, the ram was also fine as i tested it thoroughly. and i took the graphics card out (x800gto pci-e) and tried a Geforce 6200 i think it was and still problems.
