X2 3800

No Idea on the stepping (I am not taking off the HSF just to look at it) but my Retail X2 3800+ (Rev E6 Toledo core) is running 2.4ghz on stock volts.

Thanks for the reply :)
Do you think you could get more out of it?
My brother was gonna go for an Opty 165, but the X2 3800 is £60 cheaper.

There is definately more there.

2.6ghz should be easy, possibly even on stock volts.

2.8ghz is probably the max I will be able to get on air. May push for 3ghz.

At the moment 2.4ghz is lovely and fast.

TBH I don't see the opteron as worth the extra money (now with how well my 3800+ clocks).

Bear in mine the opteron has a 9x multiplier so your friends motherboard will need to support a high fsb to get the most out of it. (266fsb required for 2.4ghz)

I think i'm sold, although i'll go for an OEM as he has a TT Big Typhoon.
Pointless wasting £10 for a fan he won't use and a 3 year warranty which won't get used either as i'm sure he'll upgrade before then.

Thanks for the info :)

The best steppings from Ocuk are coming from the retail chips right now. You want to get your hands on an LDBHE 0601_PMW if you can, although I received a LDBHE 0605DPMW from Ocuk a few days ago.

The OEM chips, it would seem, are the CCBWE steppings which are half cache disabled Toledos. The LDBHE (true Manchester cores) seem to be clocking better.

ooooh Just thought I would add that my processor was bought a little while ago now so won't be of the same batch that they have at the moment.

I have personally noticed looking around that the toledos and the manchesters are clocking pretty much the same. Every cpu is differenet however and its the luck of the draw whether you get a good one or not.

I would imagine all of them should hit around 2.4ghz anyway.

A damn good chip for the money if you ask me.

It seems to be a pretty good bang for buck chip, which is why i don't want him spending the extra on the opteron, only to get a lemon.
At least this way if he gets a lemon, it's not cost him another £60.00

Im getting G.Skill ram, is it better to go the low timing 3200 stuff, or the higher timing PC4000 stuff?

went for the pc4000.
Had to buy an X1900 XT-X aswell, 'cos the XT had sold out in the time it took for me to make up my mind on the cpu + memory
