Hey guys, i'm intending to get a X2 3800+, but i still have some concerns..

Which core is better? Manchester or Telodo?

Whats the mininum that it can clock? Will i easily get it up till 2.7ghz?

Thanks

Toledo is the better core, they clock higher than the manchester core on lower volts, also its pretty rare to see a toledo cored x2 3800 as toledo is more common in x2 4400+ and above. If you do come across a x2 3800 toledo it will most likely be a castrated x2 4400 core (512k disabled on each core). Keep in mind steppings matter aswell for overclock ability. Early manchester x2 3800`s were the best 0601 - 0614. Have a look at the 3800 manchester thread on xtreme forums to get idea of what this years manchesters are capable of.

Have a look at the 6th post down to see what a toldeo based x2 3800 can do.

Yeh but in the 5th post, the guy can "only" get 2.8GHz with 1.55V :p Most people won't get to 3.2GHz unless they're really lucky. Have a look at this to see what people are managing http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17578954&highlight=3800

Thanks, hmm will my Thermaltake blue orb II be sufficient?

Got an offer for a 3800+ toledo core, CCBWE 0543TPMW, this stepping any good?

Google the stepping, seems that stepping was common for the opty 170/175 doing about 2.6 to 2.8. CCBWE not the best toledo stepping, but if you can get it between those speeds its not bad, could do worse with a poorer clocking manchester, one of my x2 3800`s week 0623 did 2.5ghz, the other a 0601 did 2.9ghz. Its always a gamble mate when it comes to overclocking :D

Toledo core x2 3800's have some faulty cache so half is disabled. They are basicly either dual core opterons with half the cache disabled or higher spec X2's (4400/4800) with half the cache disabled. As such Toledo cores tend to clock higher as they originally had a higher clock to begin with (speed binned higher). If I had the choice I would deffo go with a toledo core - finding one however isn't easy.

Most 3800's will see 2.6ghz if vcore dosn't scare you. I had an 'average' manchester that went to 2.65 with 1.6v - not bad for a £95 dual core cpu.

Settled for the one with telodo core,
hmm regarding overclocking the cpu,

its the same as for overclocking a single core? or are there any other things that i shoudl take note?

Yeah generally the toldeo's clock better, but if you want a dual core CPU to OC get the Opteron 165 ;)

If you google it, u can pickup an opty 165 for less than £100, seems amd has dropped prices on these even more now. Better deal than a x2 3800. A shame ocuk dont stock them anymore.

hmm btw, what will be the max safe volt to clock the 3800+?

Thanks
