Ok, im gutted...Which to choose out of the two? Is the extra cache REALLY worth it on the 4400+ for the £100 price diff or how much it is?

Ive been jumping between the two for ages now, doing my nut, especially on the price different front...Any ideas please? Thanks

id say it was worth it the cache will make a little difference + the 4400 has a higher multi which will make it easier to overclock on a not so great motherboard. the 3800 is a very decent chip though you will be happy with either. overall if you can stretch to it the 4400 is worth it.

The 3800 is equivalent to a 3200 a 4400 is equivalent to a 4000 in single-core terms.

At least, that's what I think it was.

Indeed, well i duno bout that, i thought the 4400 was more 3700/3800 standard...although ive seen single core 4000+ do just as well as the dual core vairents...which is even more annoying :)

close, but not quite right...
X2 3800+ is roughly the same as an A64 3200+ (so you got that right)

Ah, right. It was the 4800 I was thinking of there.

Really? so have I done myself a bad turn, I changed from a 3700+ (s754) clawhammer to a x2 3800.

Not really dude, cause theres more n more pathces coming out for games for dual core optimisations, take the Quake four patch for example :)

You could always clock your cpu, but i wouldnt so hey its all personal taste :)

I've just patched Quake 4 to 1.1. Set to 1680x1050, Ultra Quality, everything to max. AA on. Vsync on. Dual Core to off. There's a slight judderness in the framerate. Set dual core to on and it's much smoother. However pressing ESC to get to the menu just locks the game up. Set dual core to off and it's ok again.

Right now it is something of a step back if you want a pure performance PC. If you run lots of applications (I tend to run media player in some games because their score is crap for example) then it'll do just fine.

Hell it'll still match a mid-level P4 in single-core work.
