I am currently thinking of buying a x2 4400 and 8i have read several forums saying that the toledo core is better at overclocking but what would be a good air cooler to use on this processor if i wanted to get 3ghz out of it.

Also what are the latest processors that ocuk have been sending out are they the ADV4400CDBOX Versions that run at 89 wt or are they the ADA4400CDBOX which run at 110 wts and wich of these is the best

Thanks

I very much doubt that you will get 3Ghz from it on air mate,i'm struggling to get past 2.8Ghz on mine using water & it's a toledo

i thought the new 89wt ones were better for overclocking and that 3.0ghz was possible on air but i might be completely wrong. Would you recomend buying a watercooling kit for it then or what air cooler is better

Not saying you can't get 3Ghz,you may get lucky :D As for air coolers, look no further than the Tuniq Tower or Scythe Ninja;) The 89w ones should have a bit more headroom, mine is a 110w :(

got a 3Ghz capable ADV from ocuk a few weeks ago. works great on air with good HSF.

If you go hunting for an ADV though make sure that the stepping is CCBIE.

Nearly all CCBIE's on google seem to be getting 2.9 to 3Ghz.

I booted at 3 ghz at 1.6vcore but I don't want to run that daily on air...temps were about 56c load. Going to wait til I get water and until then I'll just stick to 2.86ghz

so i take it then that they have the old stock left, what cooler have u used on your 4400 and have u overclocked it

I have an Arctic Cooling Freezer 64, and my CPU is currently at 27c (26c Core #1, 34c Core#2). No O/C yet, still fiddling with Windows.

Love the HSF that came with the CPU though... it had heatpipes! V. impressive.

Is yours the 89W CPU? That's really good temps, what's your average room temperature?

you only get stock heatpipe coolers with 110W versions.

Gurusan, is yours a CCBIE. mine will run happily at 3Ghz with all progs(apart from core0 on prime95) at 1.52V.

The cooler could make a difference but recent reviews suggest that the zalman is a pretty good cooler.

My max load temps also hover around 48-50c with this.

ive bought a 4400 the other day, its an ada unfortunatly, on water so was hoping for the adv. Ah well hopefully be able to hit 2.8ghz :). installing everything tomorrow so will let you know my results.

It's the ADA one, not the ADV. I must confess, I had the side of the case off at the time! :)

It idles (with case back on etc) at 30 (32/39).

Yup, mines a CCBIE...and it seems to run everything fine at 1.55vcore...but it fails prime95 after about 10-15min.....I want 100% stability.

You and your CCBIEs, i got an 89Watt ADV CCBWE, and at the moment i've only got it as far as 2.60. That was on 1.37 volts though. How far could you guys go on stock volts before you started having to ramp things up?

Also a wierd thing keeps happening when i prime with SP2004, one of them seems to go faster than the other, is this right??

Mine went to 2.4 on stock volts..then 2.6 on 1.425, then 2.7 at 1.45.now 2.86 at 1.475...and after that it wants a lot more juice!!! a lot!

Gets to 2.8 on stock but the voltage requirements start to curve upwards after that. needs 1.525V for just an extra 200Mhz.

2.6 at 1.375 is good, you should be able to get 2.8 by the sound of things.

If your background programs are using a lot of cpu time you may get one core having less time for prime95.

that's a relief, so i've got a way to go yet. Was a bid narked when my SD only did 2.6 when everyone elses did 2.8. Hopefully i'll be a bit luckier this time!!
