For gaming use,
Which would you get, and why ?
What are the stock volts ?
Which is most likely to hit 3ghz on good but not extreme air ?

Normally I would say the FX57 as its faster clocks and cheaper, but at this amount of folding one has to think about future proofing as much as possible ..

Please no mention of CPUs without totally unlocked multi's :p

You should know better

Thats pretty decisive so far ;)
Still "only" 2.6 puts me off a little, knowing my luck I would get a very poor clocker :( at least the 57 is certain to be 2.8 minimum lol.

I should know better than what easyrider ? :p

Just playing with idea's atm, nothing whatsoever decided.
3DM06 isn't a valid reason for dual cores IMO ... but near future performance benefits in real games are ... especially at those prices

Games these days are so CPU limited that debating over 200mhz of performance is quite pointless.

Stop feeling sorry for the FX57 and get the FX60. ;)

Lol .. well CPU limited is exactly why I want faster clocks ;)
Don't forget the FX57 is around £120 less too .. but at this end of the scale I don't suppose its all that relevant ... anyone know what the stock voltages are for these CPU's ?

Mmm, I'd say got with the FX-60.

The FX57 is a great chip but for a little bit of future proofing i'd go with the 60. What type of cooling are you intending on using?

The FX 60 will clock to 2.8 no problem, its after that you may have trouble getting more out of it,im in the same boat was going to get a mach 2 and overclock like mad or get the FX 60,but after a week of thinking hard im going for the FX 60..

after doing some testing at weekend my FX60 got to 3445mhz
with 3dmark 01 i get score of 41272...so FX60 seems ok cpu

FX60 is very poor for oc.....2.8ghz on air max giving 50c and needed little volts increase for that
seems it has volts protection for 1.8V......results in pc shutdown 3-4 secs after bootup

well the 3445mhz was with vapochill LS....but if it didnt reach 3.5ghz not really much good
but ill hopefully post some pics later.....once i find out how :-)

Currently very pleased with My Zalman 7000CU effective and quiet ... but if needed I don't mind changing, just mustn't be too noisy ;)

going from single core to dual core, would you need any patches?

would it all startup as normal and windows work ok and the games run or would you need to reinstall.. or update certain things?
