Been mulling over the idea as I can upgrade for as little as £200. Currently have an X2 3800+ running at 2.4GHz, with an 8800GTS 320Mb and 2Gb RAM.
If I wanted to upgrade to a C2D system, would it be as simple as, removing the mobo, CPU and RAM, and replacing them with the C2D counterparts? Also obviously plugging in the HDD, GFX etc into the new mobo.

Yup that simple but of course you'll need to format, I wouldn't bother trying to remove drivers etc. I recently did the same, swapping out my x2/mobo/ram for upgradings! :P

If you are using IDE drives and have at least three of them, make sure the new mobo will support them. Most new boards seem to only have one IDE channel which could be a problem. I plumped for the Asus p5nesli which has two ide channels. The only drawback? is the PCIe SLI wil only be 2*8*. Although, looking at the performance of two PCIe cards at 8* they seem to perform the same as the two 16*.

Yea I had 2 IDE with 1 SATA, had to drop one IDE HDD as well as one of my optical drives to run it on the one IDE channel the mobo had :(
