x2900GT minimum frames.

ok so i had a 7800GT, whos memory was borked, so i bought a x2900GT for £25. i tested out cod4 on all low at lowest res, getting 91fps avg and about 30 minimum for the 7800GT, and the avg for the x2900GT (so by this i know at the lowest res its CPU bound), BUT the minimum went to about 2. i can really feel the stutering while playing cod4 online, and its hurting my play. is there somthing i can do about this?


also when i clock it up, and it goes to 3d mode, it stays for some reason at 503 and 503 not moving up to the 700/1000 i clocked it to.

Driver issue ?

I had a similar thing with my X1950 XT-X Using newish cats a while back, the game would play great then go like syrup all of a sudden.

Installed some earlier drivers and it ran perfectly..

No idea about the clocks though sorry.

Have you got 2 x 6 pin power cables for the card ? If not it wont do 3d mode speeds.

the 2900GT only has ONE 8pin. i am using a 6 pin in that. and using rivatuner to OC not CCC, which wont work w.o an 8pin

Ok i assumed the gt had similar power requirements as the xt and thats the same thing what happened to me when i first got my xt.

I had problems with 8.5 and putting on 8.4's fixed my issue.

turn the graphics to the max (not aa/af obviously atm) and then tell us how it plays. it could be a psu issue. what power supply do you have ? if its any old brand then im not suprised. get a corsair 450w if thats the case and you should be fine.

well i OCed it fine, but it got worse. then i took ti back to stock clocks and it was better, and took it to 8.4 (after 8.6 and 8.5) and was much better but it still happens every 7-8 mins, the minimum drop from about 30 odd to about 1 - 2.

never used to happen with my 7800GT....

i have a tagan 430W u15. which has 20A on each of its rails, and a combined rail of 26A

try using AMD GPU Clock Tool to clock it.

also make sure all of nvidia driver is removed..

i used youruninstaller 2008, and drivercleaner and driver sweaper to get rid of nvidia.

as i said OCing is fine, its the random minimum frames droping to 0 and 1 which annoys me.

it never happened with the 7800GT. luckily this card is only for a week, before i get a 4850. but i hope this doesnt happen witht he 4850.

i heard these problem persisted with 3870X2s, if so how did they fix it?
