Hi guys,

My dilema = I have the go ahead from the Lady to buy this card, knowing that it's pretty much guaranteed to get xt performance from it. However I would most likely have to keep it for about a year before I bought another card. So basically would an xt performing card be able good enough for a year with the upcoming games (DX9 as I don't have Vista) for a year? Not in such a good financial state to be honest, but I don't in particular want to miss a good deal while it's so good (if it is actually so good?)

If you already have a decent DX9 card then I would probably wait, but seeing that you only have a 5700LE I'd say definately go for it and don't forget to get a new pair of pants while you're at it. GO ON YOU DESERVE IT!!

lol... this is so true, and I won't forget the pants. :D However, how is 2900xt performing in Crysis Beta (at present, and I know its Nvidia biased), and TF2 and I guess more modern games like MoH:Airborne.

Basically in a years time I don't want it to be struggling like crazy. For info, my max res is 1280*1024 and I've never really used AA much in games.

Only thing that isn't better round the corner is my Wife, Love her to bits :D

You will be fine!! I've lasted one year with Geforce 7300GT @ 1680x1050 res!! Altough I only played Pro Evo Soccer and CS:S.

Since you are coming from ancient graphics card, I hope you have decent PSU and Fans to handle the 2900 Pro.

I've played both, works fine. Nobody is getting good performance in Vista right now though. Airborne is awesome, runs like a dream.

OK.. discussing it finally with the honey when she gets home.. If I was not married I would have bought one in 1 second flat lol. Last time I just bought something it was £1500 worth of car parts. She wasn't too happy to say the least. Car was quick as hell and handled like a dream though lol (280bhp 200sx s14a).

She did say earlier that maybe it's not such a good idea since we don't have dining room chairs just yet (using patio chairs!), but also said I haven't bought anything in ages. Oh man, I'm 29 but suddenly feel like a child 'asking permission' as such. This is so sad lol.

My PSU is fine (HX520W bought for 1950xt heavily overclocked, then sold the card) and case has 2x 12cm fans (Jeantech Phong), decent case with fantastic airflow.

All I can say is I love being 17, money is all mine! I feel for you though, my dad goes through a similar fashion when he wants to buy something :p.

No idea of the costs though for these new cards coming out. I could only hope they were in the same region as these are.

At the end of the day the stuff we buy is non essential and waste of time. Its good you have someone watching over your shoulder so you don't slip up.

Go for it m8 :D. I'm ordering mine today but I'm seeing if the Sapphire cards are performing the same as the HIS cards before I take the plunge.

Have you got any info on them as I've been away for the last few days?.

Oh well. Couldn't see any results on the Sapphire Pro's overclockling potential but I ordered any way. Will plug it in on Tuesday if everything goes well with CityLink.

I wonder if my single 12v rail on my PSU at 22@mps can withstand the power of the 2900Pro?. My PSU has handled my sig for just over a year and I've overclocked further on RAM and CPU but heat holds me back on CPU and not power. It's a bit risky but here's hoping :( :).

Sorry, You'll need a new PSU, 22A just won't cut it.

Wuth 22A you have 264W on the +12v and a 2900XT/Pro can consume >220W on it's own. Your CPU will take another 100-150W from the +12V depending on the overclock.

The Corsair 520 may only be a 520W PSU but it can deliver 480W (40A) on the +12v rail hence why although it appears to be lower rated than your PSU, it will handle a 2900 easily.

Best of luck
