x299 and quad memory, does it make any significant difference in games?

I'll be buying a new PC soon.
Couldn't help but notice that quad channel memory is available with the x299 motherboards.

I've only found one gaming benchmark so far, which inferred that the benefits for gaming were negligible.
The PC is mainly going to be used to play DCS, which is VERY memory intensive, i.e. I regularly see the game using 16-20GB of memory.

Any opinions here as to whether going x299 is worth the effort?
My current assumption is that I'd be better off spending the cost difference elsewhere.
