X3 Gold or Eve

Looking to invest some time and try to get into either of these. Which one would you recommend. X3 is on Steam sale.

Do you want a single player game where you have manual flight controls which you'll be good at in a few days, or an MMO with a more click based, 'tactical' control method which will take months to really get into?

And how social do you want to be? Eve is not a game to solo in. You can do it, but you miss out three quarters of what it's all about.

From what I've read, you dont really need to get x3 gold, as x3:TC is probably enough on its own (what I bought). Unfortunetly you missed yesterdays sale of x3:TC for 4.99 think its back to 10 now.
