I bought X3 a while back.. I played it for about 3 hours, got bored of getting nowhere and havent played it since. I'm finding it really hard to make any sort of money or anything. Does anyone have any good tips to get started with this game ? Thanks

Someone here gave me some good advice when i was struggling, but it depends if you want to bend the rules slightly.

I found out the location of one of the derelict ships and sold it for 750,000, enabling me to buy various things like a big cargo ship, best buy/sale software, and enough spare to buy a decent ammount of cargo to trade.

Made the game so much better imo.

i made a good start by selling my buster and i changed to a hauler, then i ferried space fuel from the space fuel factory in herrons nebula(north of argon prime) to the trading station, which is also in herrons nebula(i think i bought it for 700 a tonne and sold at 1200 i think). Got the ball rolling for me :)

Hmmm.... okay then.. Problem is, doesnt it all seem a little slow? I don't mean graphics wise, i mean gameplay wise, it takes ages and ages to get the ball rolling, not that ive actually had it rolling yet :-/ Thanks for the advice and also for the link i shall check it out.

things start getting faster and more addictive once you start buying more or new ships and weapons. When you have at least 1 trading ship with its own pilot(sector trading or universal trading) u can leave the game running overnight with the accellerated time on and the money comes rolling in.

Like elite it can be slow to start, but its worth it, I couldnt stop playing it for 2 months or so(which is a long time for games these days). What ruined it for me in the end though, was when i had a bunch of carriers, each with multiple fighters in, and the frame rate started getting very poor during large battles.

Your machines better than mine so you should be fine though :)

Never thought of leaving it overnight... Hmmm. But if pirates attack you doesnt the SETA turn off? Or if something like a ship comes close to it also turns off? I'd hate to leave it over night for the seta to turn off after 20 mins :/

Fly around 30k up the z axis, you won't run into anything which will stop seta.

Another little tip- If you are left in a 'borrowed' ship after completing a mission, remember to sell all the gear in it before ending the mission & going back to your ship. It is also possible to do this by calling at somewhere along the way as long as you are comfortable without shields etc.

If you leave SETA on overnight your fight rank will decrease
which means you have to play for even longer to access the better ships/equipment. if we where given 10mill at the start, would we know how to make the most of it? we do by the time we've earnt 10mill by playing.. what we learn at the very start pays big dividends later.

this has a side effect, i cant remember what it was though??

Thanks for the input guys... kinda peeved at the moment with X3, i was doing a run in Argon prime (i think) of space fuel in my larger ship, the murcury. I had spent all my money on a cargo of space fuel when the police or whoever the hell they were said stop, they wanna inspect my ship, so i said no way, and carried on flying to the Free argon trading place. And got wiped out! Losing my ship, and my cargo, also my life. How can you make loads of money when the most best things to trade are also illegal? I never new space fuel was illegal either...¬_¬
