fancy getting this whats it run like on a 8800gt @1680x1050 ?

i installed x2 once but give up with that so is this as hard to pick up?

Its similar but there's been enough changes that an X2 veteran would be confused at first. I would suggest reading the guides\walkthroughs on the Egosoft forums to get acquainted before you dive in.

Its very addictive, and unbelievably massive.
I had never played an X game before, and it did take a while to pick up, find the keyboard shortcuts and various functions etc. I played about 10hrs initiall just getting used to the controls and mission setups etc. then started a new game. But there is a lot of stuff you dont come across till much later on, so its a steep learnign curve throughout, but enjoyable non the less.

Should run well on your gt. used to run it at 1680 with full AA on my 8800gtx, with only the occassional stutter when at max (10x) SETA. So maybe with slightly less AA or only using default (6x) SETA you can run all textures etc maxed out

Don't know how different it is from X3: Reunion, but I can run that maxed out at 1680x1050 on my 512MB 7900GS.

My apologise for hijacking the thread but I am looking to get the game as well but cant find it in any of my local shops.

Does anybody know of any online direct to drive type shops that sell it other than steam?

And also is it really worth me getting a joystick to go with it?

gpu isnt that important, the game hammers the cpu though.

its also doesnt support multi core so those with octo-cores will struggle just as much as those with dual cores.

it can take a good few hours to sort out the controls to be how you want them but after that all is good.

I swear it uses at least two cores on my quad (runs at about 50% load in-game.) The box even recommends a 2Ghz core2duo to play. so a clocked dual or quad should be able to handel whatever the game can throw at it.

The game does however like ram. Quite happily eats the best part of 3GB on my rig.

it will run on a separate core from other background apps but the game itself simply cant use more then 1.

It will run just fine with that machine, at that resolution. Enjoy - cracking game. Wish I had the time to appreciate it though!

Runs ok for me at 1920x1200 on my 4670 for the most part, busy sectors the fps becomes fairly unplayable at times, but for the most part I can cope :)
The game abuses cpu + ram though.

the 100k view distance mod makes it much better .
Don't think my rig would cope with that though :p
It's one my list of things to use when I get a new graphics card :)

I played this game and absolutely loved it for 2 months or so then one day I just stopped playing, can't remember why. That was a good year or more ago. Tried getting back into it a couple of times but just can't seem to.

I'll have to throw a couple of mods on and have a whack at the main game, I always just went lone merchant.

How is the game balanced; is it more of a Freelancer type game, or more like EVE Online? I love space games but I prefer ones with a more rigid mission structure ('cos I love a good bit of space combat.)

Also does it need a joystick or can I play with a mouse and keyboard?
