Hey guys

Just purchased this game, opened the box and there is no manual in there - is this normal? I've got the 2007 version.

Are there any must have mods etc to download or can I just play it right out the box?

will run as it is out the box, good game, not played it myself but others rave about it.

Check the forum for X3 posts, im sure there is a thread somewhere about addons for it.

It's not the worlds most useful document though, the game forces you to discover things for yourself. Which is good, unless you're like me and simply get confused

Just started playing it myself, love it so far. Takes a while to get use to the controls though!

yep - i bought X3 a year ago - looks amazing but i couldnt get used to the controlsn - couldnt get anywhere let alone back to where i came from - im sure its great but it takes SERIOUS perseverance and concentration - neither which attributs in posess in particular abundance. I may re-install it for the eye candy however.

very similar to X2 then, i couldnt get into it as a game but others say its worth the play. not as good as X3 though.

Make sure you patch it up to the latest version as its not the best out of the box. The Egosoft forums are a wealth of knowledge as it does have quite a steep learning curve.

Just installed this today and it is just confusing me at the moment, i have just been thrown in there with no help at all really

cheers, but should it have come with a manual? It also talks about a registration sticker that should have been in the box to access parts of the website - This wasn't in the box either - infact apart from the DVD, nothing was in the box !

There's plenty of starter guides and all the people there know their stuff.

This game definatly doesn't fall into the category of "pickup and play", you need to invest seveal hours in learning how to play, after weeks of playing I was still learning new stuff. But the games worth it, once it sucks you in, it's up there with classics such as Elite/Frontier.

i was about to say the exact opposite.

works perfectly for me and has been recently patched to deal with what few issues there was.

any specific issue?

It *will run* out of the box, but badly with lots of crashes and likely game-breaking bugs in the story. Do yourself a favour and install the patches before you start playing. It's one of my faveourite games, but I left it alone for six months, until the '2.0' patch finally fixed all the issues.

As for the manual - I couldn't say. I bought the game when it first came out and it came with a manual (which wasn't really all that helpful to be honest).

Right, i'll take it semi back. I can play the game under XTended. I can't update to the new patch as it starts to moan and crash!

Yeah, but if it's new boxed copy then it should already be 2.0 shouldn't it?
