I just bought a acer x34 monitor a few weeks back. my pc is connected to it in a DP and I bought a mini-displayport to HDMI to connect to my mac when I need it, it doesnt seem to recognise it for some reason, tried it on two macs. anyone have tried connecting a mac to their x34?

does the HDMI port on the monitor and indeed the actual HDMI cable support the 3440 x 1440 resolution? I imagine it will depend on what iteration of HDMI port/cable it is.

Likely the cable to be at fault (old version).

i've the 13' mac pro(early 2015) and it supports more than 3440x1440 according to the tech specs. https://support.apple.com/kb/sp715?locale=en_GB

yea, I think the cable I bought is the problem. it doesn't seem to support newer mac. only for 2011 and earlier. odd that they are still being sold at a reputable store(compub).

I was meaning more the port on the monitor itself rather than the mac.

Which HDMI cable did you purchase, got a link?

yep. check 2nd link in my previous post. I would assume the HDMI port supports 3440x1440 since it is the HDMI for a 3440x1440 monitor

That link is for the adapter, i'm talking about the actual HDMI cable that runs from the adapter to the monitor.

I had an earlier Macbook Pro and also had problems connecting via HDMI to my X34, it would occasionally connect but only at 50hz but worked fine using DP both ends.

I think either the Mac or HDMI port just can't support such a high res/refresh rate combination.

What's it like on a mac btw? Thinking about getting one of these to replace a couple of 24" displays.
