I purchased a X34 a few days ago after having a couple of dell ultrawide monitors, So after they both had pretty bad BLB the 2nd one wasn't as bad but i thought if i'm dropping close on £700 on a monitor it needs to be good.

So i'm really into ultrawides and i'm adamant on getting one, I went to the forums and saw a lot of people were getting good x34 panels.

So i decided to pull the trigger and low and behold again pretty nasty BLB that's very visible.

Here's a picture

I'll be taking it back today but damn! Am i the most unlucky guy at getting bad panels or what?

Does the photo truly reflect what you see? Because the orange tint from corners is usually IPS glow although I have never seen it this bad. BLB is usually white / light blue

I'll be honest, it's not as bad as the photo really makes it out to be, but it's damn near close, when i'm playing games like project cars and the track is set to night or games like Alien isolation it's extremely viable.

I can also see it on my desktop so i decided to go with a vibrant picture so i couldn't notice it.

It's just a damn shame that a monitor that cost that much money has the same if not a worse problem than the dell monitor i had that was considerably less expensive.

It is the same panel mate. You are not paying extra for better QC or perfection. You are paying for G-Sync and ability to overclock without breaking warranty.
Think it as intel K-series CPU. And look at prices of all G-Sync monitors vs non-gsync versions.

It honestly might be worth a swap. Backlight bleed and IPS glow were certainly not a widespread issue with the Acer monitors, many people have minimal bleed and glow (myself included).

Oh Jesus that looks nasty. I hear horror stories but luckily my AOC 34" ips is pretty much the best ips screen I've ever seen and zero backlight bleed. Anything over £400 and I'd be expecting virtually zero screen defects. It's a monitor and the idea it looks great, not poo like a 84 quid el'cheapo.

Return it

Do you need out of the box brightness which is 80 or 100 i think or would you be happier with more recommended setting in 31-34 range?

If it's still bad return it. And consider either trying replacement or Samsung VA.

You may be unlucky in a way but also lucky in another. In UK you can return within 14 days no reason needed. In developing countries... well that would just be unlucky and no option to change your mind.

I'm finding it very hard to believe its this bad.

My X34 is perfect. 100Hz, no bleed, no glow, no whine etc, etc.

Have you calibrated your monitor? Sounds like your settings are way off from normal user settings.

If you spending this much on a monitor you really should have a calibrator.

I use a X-Rite i1 Display PRO

I turned the brightness down to 40 but it's still pretty bad, so i returned it, i've ordered the ROG Swift PG348Q see if i get any luck with that.

Thanks for the comments though guys.

Find it hard to believe all you want to be honest, That's how bad it is.

Also, how is the monitors settings way off from normal user settings?

What would you class as normal user settings?

I hadn't touched anything when it came out the box, After looking at other peoples suggestions for turning my brightness down i did but it didn't exactly go away at all, it was just a bit more dull.

The monitor got to 100hz, it had no coil wine like yours either, i just had this issue.

Anyway. not like it matters now cause the thing has been returned.

Going to be waiting a while for the Asus and from the few people that have received those you aren't guaranteed to not have the same issue or any that plague the x34.

I got my asus monitor today and it's pretty amazing, The X34 was worth a punt though, I'm happy for people that are using it with no issues as they are getting the same experience i am right now. :)
