I am not sure which of the two to get as the last time I researched was when the base model X34 had quality control issues but I don't know if the X34A fixed those issues or if ASUS had the same problems.

Thanks.

Spent the weekend with both so this might help:

ACER X34A

Build quality

For the money I was pretty disappointed. The top and side screen bezels didn’t fit uniformly to the screen and in places you could see slight bumps especially along the top. The lower bezel also didn’t consistently follow the curve of the screen with the odd extra space here and there.

Also the stand was not as solid and the monitor would wobble slightly when I was typing although I am quite heavy handed.

Screen

As far as I know it’s the same panel as the ASUS so any difference it likely down to quality control and pure luck. In my case the backlight bleed was ever so slightly better but still an issue. The ACER also had a dead pixel.

On-screen menu

A royal pain in the arse to use however once you’re all set up you’re not likely to go into the menu very often.

Design

Looks like a mish mash of ideas but still manages to look good.

ASUS PG348Q

Build quality

Very good. Everything just felt more uniform and polished. There was also no monitor wobble, the base was rock solid.

Screen

This was my second ASUS as the first one had terrible backlight bleed. Whilst this one is better I’m still undecided if I can live with it. The ACER was ever so slightly better in this regard but the ASUS had zero dead pixels.

On-screen menu

The joystick control makes it a joy to use.

Design

It’s extremely well designed and allot more consistent in it’s look and feel but I still preferred the ACERs design.

So my pick . . . ASUS PG348Q. It just feels like a better quality product all round. Now if only I could get past the backlight bleed issues I’d be very happy.

Save yourself the money and pick whatever is cheaper, since paying premium won't really give you any peace of mind or anything else extra.

It's a lottery anyway and your chances getting something decent will be equal - some people get lucky with one manufacturer, some with another. Some with none ;)

This.

Also, consider that in a few months the new generation will be coming out, with new panels. They'll cost _at least_ as much but you should have 144hz, more choices and hopefully panels which have been designed for these high freq, instead of the Acer/Asus which are basically 60hz panels overckocled by the gsync module.

Anyway, from what I'm reading around and saying that I like the Asus design much better, I think the Acer should be a better choice, and it's cheaper.

Were you typing with a hammer?

I have a keyboard tray, so I guess it's more separated from the monitor but I've never seen the monitor wobble on my desk.

Literally exact same price to the penny hahaha

Down to personal preference on the stand.

I'd save money and get the x34 unless your set on needing the ROG logo.

On ocuk:
Acrer X34A: 989£
Asus PG348Q: 1099£

In EU, the difference is even bigger, close to 200€ (160-180€ generally speaking)

If you shop around the UK price difference is close to non-existent and that's before you explore any price matching possibilities.

I stuck with OCUK though. Have never had anything except first class service from them.
