are the updates that MS release for the backwards compatibility with xbox1 games contained in the latest dashboard updates. or is it a seperate update that is needed for the compatibility.

I'm not 100% sure, I think they're downloaded when you try playing an old Xbox game. You can however force the update by downloading it to CD and installing it I believe.

Its seperate updates as it's not part of the Dashboard.

They'll get downloaded when you pop in a Xbox1 game and it checks to see if there's an update available.

microsoft have a list of what is backward compatible, but in all honesty there's not a lot there. a handfull of old games you'll never want to play and the halo's.

Call me retarded, but I've tried playing Forza Motorsport on my 360 (it's on that lis in the link above) and it just comes up that it's not supported and an update may be available. Now shouldn't my 360 update automatically or meh I dunno.... ?

*edit*

You can call me retarded, I forgot to plug the 360 into the modem, hence it wasn't giving me the option to update. I hang my head in shame.
