My mate has finally got his 360 delivered. The thing is, his LCD TV only has one DVI, Scart and S-video. The Media centre is currently plugged into the DVI, so where would you plug in the Xbox to get HD? HD doesnt work through Scart or S-Video does it?

Unless your friends TV has component, the only way to get HD on the TV is via the DVi socket. For this he'll need the 360 VGA cable and an VGA to DVi adapter. Thats how im running mine.

Can he use a vga box thing so his media centre and xbox work on the same dvi socket?

Yes, he could use a VGA switch. 2 VGA inputs (1 for 360, 1 for PC) and one output, to LCD.

Some of these are very good with no signal loss and can be had for less than a tenner.

Would he not want to use the Xbox360 Media Center extender capability now? Then put the Media Center in another room perhaps?

Then that wouldnt be connected to a hdtv. An xbox cant play divx or xvid files and cant play ogg, flac, either.

does the extender offer everything u can do on the proper mce interface over wifi?

Pretty much, except for that it will only play .WMV and windows media format video, no other formats directly.

Regarding connecting to the HDTV, a VGA switch is probably the best option to go for, as you're not goting to get HDTV via the SCART and S-Video.
