Would I need a receipt to organise an RMA should it develop a fault? I'm thinking of buying one second hand but he doesn't have the receipt.

No, you just ring MS and give them the serial number of the 360.

As long as it hasn't been registered to the previous owner, as MS will arse around a little I believe. I think you can get the registration details moved over if you phone them though.

They know how old the console is, so probably have a good idea or rough idea when it was shipped.
