X38 P35 any difference??

Is there anyother difference in the X38 and P35 other than 2 full pci-e 16 lanes? :confused:

well, those 2 PCI-E x16 lanes are also PCI-E 2.0 but those are the headline diferences.
X38 uses ICH9R southbridge & P35 is used with either ICH9R or ICH9.

I cant understand why so many people shell out the extra for an X38 over a P35 when they dont use crossfire and also the P35 easily does 450FSb :confused:

PCIe 2. Wanted X38 but couldnt get one as it was near release so i ended up with P35. I am really happy with it but i would have loved to have the PCIe2 feature as i rarely change mobos.

It's the old thing of having it but not needing rather then needing it and not having it. Arn't the new Ati cards pci-e 2 i thought they were ??.

Possibly, but then doesn't running them in the older slot only incur a minor performance loss?

As i don't think there are any pci 2 cards out we can't say for sure. Maybe thats why next gen is going to be so good i don't really know but better to err on the side of caution as long as the price is right

both ATi & nVidia have PCI-E 2.0 gfx cards out but they don't need PCI-E 2.0 to run & they don't incur a penalty running on PCI-E 1 as they don't max that bandwidth.

I wasn't sure to be honest i only get interested in components when it comes time to upgrade and soon after upgrading i will again disappear not to be seen for quite a while

According to CCC my GPU is running at PCI-E 2.0 x16 on a P35 but I believe that is an error.

Right now its not a major performance loss no, i really hope it stays that way though.

And even still, some games do lose a substancial amount of performance...

as long as the loss is minor i am fine, when losswill start to increase then i wont really like it >_>

Well, my x38-dq6 arrived today for £80 delivered from ocuk. It was a b-grade item and i think its an rma. I did have the p35-ds3 before this and in terms of overclocking, it isnt any better. I only got it for the crossfire functionality and because it was a good price.
