finally got it installed - was a nightmare!

at stock setting runs 3D06 and gives around 13400.

if i enable D.O.T at captain or above it fails 3D06 saying that the card failed but has recovered.

anyone else had problems like this with an x2?

is this a dud?

yes but this is the built in overclock that comes with catalyst, why put the predefined OT settings if it fails to reach them?

I would suggest overclocking using something like ATI Tool or Rivatuner. In the past my cards have locked up using the CCC to overclock, but were fine when using a third party tool like the two I've mentioned.

remember the Card is overclocked as standard anyway ...at 850MHz per core without touching those overclock settings ... which will overclock it even more

at 850MHz core there is very little headroom to go higher

the "captain" etc settings are just percentage overclocks and same for all cards, you could say why does the ATI tool allow for 1100MHz core ... if it can't get there ...

hi there (yes im new but have been reading these forums for ages just got registered as me hotmail account would not work)

anyways why don't you just overclock you're pc instead of the card,as default clock rates the 3870x2 should be enough i would imagine, and the extra umff from the cpu overclock should boost it nicely.

Verzili - like I said the MSI is pre-overclocked anyway .. (within the bios itself of the card so you don't need to do any tweaks)

therefore your thing about the CPU is even more valid

Exactly..I understand why the Op may be thinking that..but at 850mhz there isn't much headroom left...at 850mhz on my 3870xt that's about the max ; in fact I've had to take it lower than that cos crysis freezes - however I wouldn't think of thinking that I have a duff card and the 3870xt has the same core as the 3870x2 just one of them.

I can see why you might expect higher as it has the sliders..but as already quoted it's getting to the max anyway.
